What happened to the little bad guys?

And let me end this with a question COMMUNITY: When was the last time you got tazed?
Last time I resisted arrest. Last time I got shot was the last time I shot first... If you don't want shot don't carry a gun. I know it's the old saying but let's be honest RP is bad from both sides, not always, but certain people ruin it for others. If some rebels constantly are killing police and sniping them etc then of course the police are going to "Value their life" and run away. Although the police rules and punishments can be to blame sometimes too, if you don't "value your life" etc then punishments are way too severe for minor things.

Yesterday. Point blank tazer into my chest when I was standing there asking why I needed to put my hands on my head immediately for inspecting my small licensed firearm...

edit; The PC that tazed me point blank for doing nothing wrong also had 2 PCSO's with him... HA, brilliant job... teach the new guys how to be an overly aggressive cop.... *sigh*.
Obviously situational dependant, but if you have a gun you can expect hostility. Definitely over the top here, I usually politely ask for them to holster it and everything works out great. The thing I don't understand is putting your hands on your head if you're being arrested for speeding etc.... Really? I always ask if i'm going to be shot if I don't and just instantly get tazed.

Police do need to stop restraining everyone at every opportunity though. I understand why people do restrain though, I tried not to restrain someone wanted for cop killing, murder etc... He ran off and said called me an offensive term for someone with Down Syndrome. At least I wasn't shot!

That sums up what I tried to type better than I did with 500 words...

Sooooo #NoGunsForPolice?

I've been playing Arma 3 for 3 days now. I have had some good experiences and also some bad experiences with the police. But the experience that I have had with the police that stands out the most is the utter brutality of several officers at once.

Me and my brother did a weed run, we were pulled over by 2 police officers who role played very well even after we were insisting on a lawyer and that they had unlawfully pulled us over/put us in handcuffs without telling us why we were pulled over and of course them shooting my brother dead. After some time they left us, my brother got in someones car and I was left alone walking aimlessly. Until a policeman pulled up and we talked for a while, I asked him for a lift and he gave me a lift down the road then said "This is far as I can take you."

This is where things get interesting.

I followed him whilst talking to him, he was fully aware I was following him after I said "Where we going officer", to this he replied "Don't worry follow me". After following him for a short time we got to the top of the hill, where several police officers, including sergeants/desk sergeant were gathered with a gang (The Forsaken Kings). I waited with them for a bit, until one of them said "What's this hobo doing here?" as soon as this was said they were surrounding me, knocking me out, zip tying/hand cuffing me, all whilst laughing and joking to themselves/throwing the occasional verbal abuse. Some time passed and a helicopter could be heard in the distance, by this point I had been uncuffed. Immediately the police and the forsaken kings began to open fire, shortly after I did as well, however my shot hit the copter, resulting in the death of a sergeant who was piloting it.

After the sergeant was killed they all turned onto me more viciously, hurling abuse, knocking me out some more, handcuffing me, trying to drop me off the cliff and to this I retaliated by responding to a gang members threats/verbal abuse. After this happened, I was put into a vehicle by the gang members, drove to the weed fields, where I tried to make my escape. I jumped from the car but fell and stumbled, immeadiatly a gang member got out and shot me in the head as if to be some form of brutal execution.

Surely there's further to the story than everything you put up there...

Not much else happened, I shot at the copter, killed the sergeant and the repeatedly cuffed me/knocked me out, then took me away for execution. All I wanted to do was my 1st ever weed run and all this happened. The reason they took me to the car was I said "fuck you" to one of the forsaken kings who was sat insulting me and saying "There's things I can do to you that the police can't even dream of" .

From starting off in the police as a CSO and working to SGT, my method has changed. When I was young blueberry I wanted to catch everyone, kill the murderers and stop the drugs, but as I grew older in the police I realised that I enjoyed the little things. Since I joined RTU, I stay away from the drug places, instead I deal with as much road crime as possible. But the biggest thing that keeps coming back is that the rebels don't want to RP it. I've tried the pull people over for small traffic offences, so driving wrong side of the road, no headlights on or speeding. Sometimes they stop, get out and talk to me, sometimes they run. The worst is when they stop, get out with a rifle, have some friends arrive and take my hostage or kill me.

I do love RP'ing the small offences, but no matter were  I am the threat of being taken hostage is huge, and I am jumpy sometimes. if a car slowly passes me I draw my taser and point it towards the car. Cops are jumpy, I do it for fear of my life on a day to day basis. The police do need some better RP from what I can see, but the rebels must learn to lose a few times. RP it, tip your hat to the officer. Your finally caught. I love letting rebels win (So long as they have the right RP/Evidence), but rebels never seem to let the police win.

Thats my 2 pennies anyway.

This is one of the reasons you have amazing academy members like me training them. XD

There has to be more to the story than you're making out. Mainly for 2 reasons...

1. The police higher-ups know better than this.

2. If I'm not mistaken TFK have quite strict rules on executions...They have to be done in a castle I think.

I can agree on alot of this.

I remember when PLF were around together with TI. Ofc we got in to a lot of gun fights back then as well. But then the cops used much more time in trying to catch us than just kill us.
They spent long chases, and planned ambushes to arrest some wanted members when they had information they were alone in citys etc.

Even if I were wanted for 4-5 mill and 10+ cop killings. They would take the time to restrain you, bring you to the station and RP with you.
I have had so many situations were I were arrested standing hours just telling the police why my "crimes" not is crimes, but a way to force freedom bla bla bla.
And that I miss the most.

The police actually wanting to catch you, not just kill you and tell medics not to revive you. (that happens ALOT. Even when no medics are online, cops are told not to revive by higher ups)
Were is the pride in that, were is the good old cop culture, when you actually want to catch the bad guy, and put him in prison.

And valuing life, back then we could walk up to the police in force if we had 5+ men there. And tell the police, this is not a place you want to be now. And they spent at least 10 minutes talking to you without calling for backup the first second, couse they wanted to see what happens and experience our RP.
Now the first officers dont seem to care if they die. They just call backup and go guns blazing if we dont put our hands in the air.

And I dont think I have even experienced beeing restrained and brought to the station in a good 1 month mby even 6 weeks.
And as a guy who constantly do illegal stuff I find that wierd. And the chanse have been there many times.

And this is not a rant towards anyone, this is just how I see the situation.

Whilst the rest of your post is very good, I just cannot find myself agreeing with this at all. I've never heard a higher up order this and I always try to get people back up. Medics are told to revive officers first, then rebels. If you have solid evidence of officers denying medics to revive rebels, please forward it to us as I find that very poor behaviour.

This discussion is one of those things where everything works both ways. The game has definitely changed compared to a year ago and sometimes does seem more focused towards combat. (Eventhough I had some fantastic RP the entire evening last night)

As a member of the police I am, of course, biased, but we have had some very combat oriented gangs in the past. I feel that my take on the police has certainly changed compared to when I joined. To be brutally honest, I'm sometimes scared to RP. Most of the time I try, it almost always ends in a gunfight or an attempt to be taken hostage (which is only fun when you meet some good guys that don't leave you facing a wall for the next hour). And this doesn't have to be the original guy you RP with, but stand in one place too long and some gang will pass by and get involved.

A few examples why RP is hard:

  • Pull someone over for not having their lights on: insta-chase, run into ambush --> firefight
  • Pull someone over for a small bounty (vehicle theft): chase, ambush, firefight
  • Pull someone over for any bounty: Rebel: "No sir, it's not my vehicle, it's my friends." Trying to RP from here, usually leads to letting them go, as anything else results in: "OMGWTF! Metagame, powergame, liaison room now!"
I honestly think there are problems on both sides, we should all lighten up a bit and be OK with losing stuff, rather than instantly joining the liaison room.
Besides that I think a lot of trust has been lost between both sides. Too often do officers carry non-lethal by default and insta-restrain people for no reason. This puts rebels on edge, making them resort to aggression sooner, thus making the police take a more aggressive stance as well. In other words, we've entered a vicious circle that's hard to break.

I, for one, will continue to carry my rubber bullet gun and will try to be less on edge and RP more. As a result I hope to run into someone someday that actually drives his own vehicle and didn't kill in self defense, but rather drunkenly pushed someone down the stairs or something. That being said, I'm also a police officer, so I will crush your truck full of drugs and take away your hunting rifle.

Thanks for a good answer!
I agree to most of what you say. And yeah, it's definitly problems on both sides.

When it comes to evidence for not reviving, I have at least 1 SGT that can back up one instance when it was one of the higher rankings in the force that said it.
I also have medics that have sent me a msg, "sorry orders not to revive."
Ill see what I still have recorded.

And that a trust is broken is clear. But I mean, when can a trust be built again, when so many people dont value their words.
They agree ingame with one party, then agree something else on TS with their members there. Making the part who sticks to his RP suffer in any situation.
This is not only towards police, but a lot of rebels as well.

But when police uses negotiations to set up and prepare to take out everyone. And their goal with the "negotiation" is basicly just stalling rebels from taking position, and being hostile. So they can use that time to set up ambushes and snipers. That will never ever create any type of trust again.
I usually pick the shortest straw in those situations. When I trust the negotiator I talk to. And telling my members to stop when they are wanted for small fees, telling them to at least try to RP even how mad they are for the last situation they had.

The point im trying to reach somewere in here is.
We used to live together on the same island, being in different factions, and doing different work. But when a officer was out-manned by a rebel group. He accepted that and knew if he/her surrender it will create RP. He took time to RP with them, and show them that next time, show some trust and we can always RP. And the other way around.
That goes both ways. Rebels came to police and talked, without getting "hands up hands up" "no reply" *tazed* *restrained*

I could run up to the police with my gun on the back, and inform them as a spokesman, "Gang name" is now in the area, we will not come in the way of your work if you dont come in our way. You were able to talk, even if you had a rifle on your back. Couse most of the people valued their life. This didnt mean they not tried to interfare. But at least you were able to talk, and try!
If I do this now, I get restrained, and it turns to a fight 90%.
I dont know if it's the feeling of force/power something that have went to some people's head that have broken the trust. (on both sides)
But it's about time for all factions to work hard to gain that trust again.

And at the end, when is the police gonna stop calling me a terrorist ? ^^
Im a rebel/freedom figher, who fights for the civilians on the island. I fight against the UK laws and their employees. Not the people living on my land.

Yeah there is that thingy that annoys me personally, so many police officers are at edge, which for me is a RP destroyer, i agree with most of what you have written, and in the end, it's a circle we probably wont be able to break unfortunately....

The best RP i get these days is when i lose, there is a reason why i sit on 200-300k everyday and yet been here for over a year now! And i honestly don't mind it at all.

Thanks for a good post Ax!

I went to pull over an SUV for swerving in the middle of the road once, we was not wanted yet still felt the need to lead us offroad so he could get out and try to kill us, i dont understand why people do this all the time, some people have it in their head that all police are agressive and only care about killing rebels...if that were the case police would be no different than the ones we are trying to catch. When i pull someone over i judge and act depending on their explanation for what happened wrong, even if the evidence is clear... That way it is more enjoyable for me and it gives the person a chance to walk free and let them realise that you dont always have to evade police, yet simply have a chat and resolve the situation through an easier and more enjoyable way...

I remember the times when I could stand and roleplay with people without their mates or even just completely random people rolling up with guns and taking me hostage... I have a dream that one day the island shall return to that state and I can continue actually talking to people AND still get home to my bed at night.

Edit: Until then I shall continue to be a grumpy bastard. Your move rebels...

As a new resident of Altis I feel it would be nice if police protected civilians doing honest jobs better. If they patrolled certain areas better I may have completed more runs this week without being robbed. The infuriating thing about being robbed the third time in a row is that you do value your life less and you will take bigger chances. You act jumpier as a civilian and start to neglect roleplay in favour of an objective based game play where you think "I dont want to pick more fucking peaches just to get a gun and feel safe from bandits."

which by the way, I had to spawn in at 9 am this morning to buy from the gunshop without being robbed again! It was so quiet I decided to get my money out and get my licenses too so I dont need to carry money any more.

I'll own the daytime if I have to.

Back on subject though, more police patrols where civilians need them might improve interactions and build trust.

Maybe better rp in the daytime.
