Nice spec there, the 970 is a very very good card.

If i can recommend a case - the NZXT Phantom 410. Comes with good cable routing, nice side window, 3 silent fans included and space for 4-5 more. It's around £70 too so not too pricey.

Semi Modular PSU - Corsair make a good one thats about £50ish,

Will definitely look into both considering my birthday is on the 28th  I should be able to pick them both up. Thanks for the recommendation. I might also upgrade to the i5 4790k and of course switch the motherboard.

Built 3 computers with it in the past year. Amazingly good value for money, especially when a 6700k skylake doesnt offer much more overclocking headroom, plus it has the ddr 3/ddr 4 memory problems. DDR4 being more expensive, and normal DDR3 memory can damage a Skylake CPU if its not low-power variant.

Sorry to hijack your thread but the pc i built for my housemate last week was:

  • ASUS Bundle Above
  • NZXT PHantom 410 case in white
  • 250GB Crucial MX ssd
  • MSI GTX970
  • BeQuiet DarkRock Advanced cpu cooler
  • 500W Corsair Semi-Modular PSU
All for £1050, though i gave him a spare mechanical HDD i had for his games.

Funny how you look at a new cpu/GPU and suddenly it spirals and youve spent all your money and have a whole new gaming pc :D

That PC must run games like a dream.
So far so good, hoping to get him onto ALUK tonight :D  The real impressive thing is how ridiculously quiet it is. The fans the case came with are incredibly silent, only putting out a slight woosh with the fan controller up max. The BeQuiet cooler i highly recommend - I've had them before (you can see my own build thread in this forum) and they're deadly silent but provide excellent cooling. The only thing i will say is they're an absolute bastard to fit and you will need the help of a mate.

His PC overclocked to 4.5GHz idles at 35C. No noise, no fuss.

Hopefully your build and everything goes to plan and you're able to get all the bits you want on our birthday - any questions feel free to ask me, more than happy to help.

Alright thanks man I was thinking of getting the Corsair H100i, if not any of the liquid coolers. Do you know any other better coolers air or liquid that offer good performance.

just check it will fit in whatever case you're getting (your current case doesnt look like it has a space to mount an H100i. I have an H80i GT on mine which is great because it offers the same surface area of the H100, but is only a 120x120 slot, so can bolt on to the rear exhaust of your case. The downside with the Liquid coolers is the pump and fans obviously generate noise - i dont care as i wear headphones though.

Closed Loop All in One Liquid Pros/Cons:

Pro: Liquid cooling props from all your mates

Pro: Pretty good cooling potential (non-oc my pc was at 28C idle)

Con: Can be noisy as hell especially on Full-Performance

Con: 120x240 or 120x360 coolers need big cases to fit in. With some Motherboards and top-mounted 120x240 radiators, the radiator can hit the CPU Voltage Regulator Heatsinks. This means you need to specifcally check it will fit, or find a radiator that is thinner. Thinner rad = less cooling.

Air cooler wise - anything from BeQuiet or a Noctua DH15. They provide amazing cooling and virtually no noise.

Pros: BeQuiet and Noctuas i know first hand are silent as the grave.

Pro: Excellent cooling potential

Cons: Can be hard to fit depending on backplate design

con: the good ones are bloody massive - check your cases Max CPU cooler Height. For a BeQuiet it MUST be able to take 165mm tall cooler.

At the end of the day i'd say personal preference is the big factor, plus are you planning any mad crazy overclocks? The only thing i cant comment on are Custom Loop water cooling setups. I've never built one and they're 2scary4me. But i hear they can be amazing but i'm an IT guy, not an effing plumber.

Nice advice I guess I'll try and find the best fit for my case.

If you want max performance from your RAZOR mouse, you should change your mouse mat,due to the decrease in DPI you will receive in Arma 3,you should have a black RAZOR mouse mat,due to how much better the DPI will be,because mouses pick up on black best.

I have a BeQuite Cooler on my i7-4770k and it works a dream. It's really quite and keeps your CPU really cool, but you will have to take you motherboard off to fit the backplate. I would say fitting it is a two man job where it is so big, just remember to check the size of your case.

Didn't know that I play on 500DPI I actually ordered the Steel series QCK + a couple days ago.
