Personally I never, ever go there, but I can see why people would.

Besides, I think it is better to let kill hungry people go there then that you let them do some odd RP just for kills. I kinda feel that coming.

 
Leave it, its nice for rebals to sit and relax and not have to worry about being arrested by us cops. I also think it makes it more interesting, like when police are chasing someone to red zone, its nice to have to try to beat them there. Also rebal bases would have no protection. Keep it

 
I voted No. When I joined and saw this red zone on the map, I would always ask what 'the red zone is', people gave me different views on it, 'don't go there!', 'i'm not sure what it means but it looks bad!' or 'if you're in there, make sure you're armed'. It's great to have areas on the map that people want to go to, but are hesitant to go there. It made the place for the new guys to prepare and gain experience before exploring.

I voted Yes for this as it contradicts the reason I play on this server. I joined this server as it is a serious rp server, the red zone doesn't add any value to that, instead it is an incredibly large area where people play Wasteland or KOTH. If that's your bag then jump on to the KOTH server. Sure keep the gang bases but spread them out over the whole Island instead of concentrated in one area so that 'key locations' can be controlled.

Just my two pence.

 
I voted no.

Although this is a rp server is does not reduce rp in anyway, it's a consious choice to enter the area.

I used to be afraid to go there and that in itself is a form of roleplay, i would personally encourage people to go there more often. It really shows a stark relief to what else can be achieved.

Make the red zone bigger and move the illegal item processors there and keep selling in the cities. Doing drugs is to easy money at the moment. Plus it will free up police much more to deal with criminal behaviour in the civilised areas.

Well thats very selfish of you. Just because you dont enjoy it doesn't mean it should get removed? Im sure you can find PLENTY of room on the gigantic map for whatever roleplay you want to do.

By looking at the poll, it seems a large part of the community still wants the red zone. Yes, it could be moved to a smaller location. All I've heard from the opposing side is that it's not their kind of roleplay, and that's why it should be removed.

To me, that is just very selfish, especially since, as I've stated time and time again, those who don't like it REALLY don't have to got here. it's so easy, just stay out.

But please, please don't take it away from the very large part of players who actually enjoy it.

This is a debate, no? If you have an opinion, I merely ask that you stand for it. Being questioned on your opinion and me trying to convince you otherwise is "poor form, dude, poor form"?

It's the very core of a community to be able to have adult debates where you have an opinion, and can defend it. If you feel "slated" because I brought forward my opinion and questioned yours, then Im sorry. But if you are not ready to defend your opinion and back it up with some well thought out arguements, maybe you shouldn't post it?

Am I willing to defend my opinion? Of course, but that isn't what this thread is for. Read the OP, we are asked to vote and give quickfire feedback, nothing else.

I believe this has turned in to so much more, and removing the red zone, something that has been on the server for almost all of its existance, is not an easy matter. 

If you look at the rest of the posts, its definitely a debate. And the main thing I reacted to was the hostility. I was putting forward my opinion and you called it "low form". If you don't want to take part in the debate, that's fine. But don't say what I did was "low" as I have been debating with people on this very thread for a long time now.

Although, reading my post again, I guess I was a little too aggressive in my tone aswell, calling you "selfish". I apologize for that.

 
I have read through the rest of the posts and agree that there is a lot of debate in here and that is a good thing. However saying that someone is selfish for their opinion is bad form as opinions are selfish. Your opinion, my opinion, everyone else's opinion is selfish as it's how they and them alone view the situation.

I wouldn't have called your opinion "poor form" if you hadn't gone with the aggressive nature of your response. You've now recognised that and I accept your apology. I can understand that people are very passionate about things on here and want to defend them strongly.

Moving on from here, I will happily give you my reasoning...

It seems counter-intuitive to have a KoS zone on a server that prides itself on serious RP, it just doesn't make sense. I totally agree though that there is plenty of room elsewhere to RP etc. Although I do think it could be more strategical with how the Red Zone is used. For instance, if the rebel outposts were close to drug fields and were to get a small payout every time someone sold drugs from their field, it would make having an outpost much more beneficial. You could even offer protection, for a price, while at said fields. It just opens up so much more possibilities than have a large area where no RP is 'fine'. By all means, have a small Red Zone around each outpost so that you can still openly fight it out for an outpost with little or no RP, but as I have said previously, having a KoS area on this map is not what the server advertises or stands for.

 
Honestly, it's not like the Red-Zone is having a drastic effect on everybody else's ability to roleplay on the server. It's not exactly rocket science, don't go into the Red-Zone unless you're willing and prepared to fight other players/gangs. Personally, I think the Red-Zone is perfect at doing what most players treat it as; a lightening rod for the RDM'ing instinct in most new/trigger finger happy players. 

Let the hot-heads or "bandits" keep their Red-Zone and let the server continue to function as it is. Don't fix what isn't broken.

 
I completely agree that the red zone could be smaller, or even moved. The old drug processing island is a good spot, as there is no real use for it now anyways. However, the view of the red zone always being KoS is not completely acurate. I've had some great RP in there, just becasue you CAN shoot on sight doesn't mean you always have to, after all it is a roleplay server.

Moving the gang bases would make sense too, or if you could choose wether you want it in the red zone or not, as then you can determine if you want a base where you can kill people on sight and also be killed on sight, or if you want a base where you can roleplay and maybe even use it for legal activities, companies and such.

The reason I called it selfish, is because you want to take something away that other players enjoy. For no real reason, other than the fact you don't think it suits your personal roleplay needs.

You need balance, and by removing the red zone you remove the servers balance. The police are stretched as it is anyway. I really don't think this is a good idea.

Read original post! :) Dain has said police will still see and treat it as a rebel occupied zone hence and will rarley enter it. Voted for it to be removed, simple fact of we have a king of the hill server so no need for a "redzone" in a serious roleplay environment.

After spending some time in the redzone I have began to enjoy it very much.

Lots of fun shootouts at the Rebel Outposts often with very skilled shooters and I have had some very unexpected roleplay sessions there.

I withdraw my vote and I no longer want it to get removed, when you spend some time there you can really enjoy it. @BratJaggesVlnd you showed me the light! Although I still think wasteland is the ideal place for more intense shootouts and battle training.

The argument "we have a King of the Hill server" is not very good, seeing as most people who dislike the redzone has never really been there. And I have yet to see a good reason for it to be removed. Time and time again I keep repeating myself, just because you can shoot on sight doesnt mean you have to or that that is always the case. The RP you get in the redzone can be utterly amazing, often because it is so random and unexpected.

Also the discussion so far has been very good, the one time it got a little heated we all calmed down and apologised to eachother, so there is really no need to tell us to keep it civil is there? Its just annoying. Had the discussion actually got out of hand it would have been good to step in, but now it just feels patronizing and uncalled for.

As a newish player to this server my opinion probably doesn't really matter, but i voted yes, the servers are at capacity pretty much all through the day and for us that do want to RP it is very difficult to get on the server, if rebels just want to go kill people and let off steam go play KOTH or Wasteland and free up slots for users that do want to RP.

Your opinion certainly matters, and I'd like to welcome you to the discussion! Just because you are new doesn't mean you're worth any less =)

But, as you are new, I presume you have spent very little or no time at all in the redzone. And as I feel myself saying time and time again, the redzone does have RP. And even if there is a shootout it only last for a small amount of time, I don't think anyone actually plays on this server JUST for the redzone, that would be very strange, as ARMA is a combat simulator game, with servers and game modes out there that offers a far greater variety of weapons and combat encounters, and where you don't have to grind for hours to afford your gear.

Its a 50/50

So the redzone stays however maybe some adjustments in there and maybe a reduction in size, I will have a look in the map editor.

One thing i know is activity needs to increase in there.
