Hi all,

I've had the current PC now for about 2 years and it's worked great. However recently i started hitting silly temps. Scott McTavish helped me with this by changing my fan temps which worked like a charm.

However now when I play GTA my GPU goes up to 101% and the temps hit 100c+..

It then just crashes my PC. I'd rather not buy a new graphics card, however if i did,

What is going to be the next option for me? If I buy a new Graphics card will it be suitable with this system?

Cheers,

Do you have a fan controller, and how many fans do you have?

Well there's your problem! You're breaking the laws of physics. It's the universes way of telling you to buy 2 titan x cards.

On a serious note, I have no idea.

You could download MSI afterburner to manually set the fan speed.(or any software really...)

But i would recommend you to take the cover off you graphic card and clean it from dust.

Already done both of them.

Just played GTA now for about 5 minutes and im too scared to carry on.

85% use on my gfx card 101c temp..

You don't need a new GFX card that's for sure, however maybe a couple more fans and a fan controller will benefit you a lot.

Hi Dylan S,

Could you post some screenshots with the TEMP and FAN settings? Their might be something wrong with your fan profiles, a GPU hitting 100C is a bit too high. Also dust off your GPU cooler to be sure.

To answer your question regarding a new Graphic Card. Any graphic card will be suitable with your system, as long you dont buy a Titan X, that would be a overkill and a bit expensive.

If you want to buy a new graphic card, and want to stay with Nvidia I would recommend upgrading to a Nivdia GTX960. EVGA has some great GTX960 with aftermarket cooler on it. Don't get the GTX970 since there are some troubles with those cards lately (Using 3.5 instead of 4GB)

Cheers,

Xsum

open the case and leave it open whilst playing then check the temps and open a window in your room and the door so air flows

If you cant workout why its overheating then under volt and underclock your GPU until you figure out why you get excessive temps.

I noticed on GTA that it shows how much video memory from total available you are using, so i would suggest try tweeking it a bit.

Also GTA crashes alot, to everyone.. you need to know if you crash is different or not.

Bare with me on them things XSum, completely forgot about this thread, will post when home from work.

GFX Cards are not designed to run at 100c.

More case fans will only drop the temp a few degrees.

Take for example my GTX 970 runs under full load and sits around 55-65c MAX and thats with 1 x Front 120mm and 1 x Rear 120mm Fans.

Steps to try.

Make sure the fans are actually running and the cable isn't preventing it from spinning

Completely remove the GPU and inspect to see if the fan blades are damaged

Remove the heat sink/fan assembly and dust it with compressed air thoroughly

Inspect the heat sink to see if there is too much/too little/bad application of thermal paste and if so remove it and apply some decent compound ie Arctic Cooling MX-2 - Thermal paste  [Plenty of guides online to show you how if you're unsure]

If none of that works then your GPU is fluxed.

Hi XSUM.

After doing some research, it's not only with GTA. My game can handle ARMA3 at top settings and keep low temps, but the moment I run a game like GTA or Rust, it flips.

I have had to change the fan speeds to 100% at all times to prevent them from further fucking my PC up.

I have also added another fan to ensure that it wasn't that.

Do you think its time for an upgrade now ?

Thanks

edit : I completely dusted off the whole PC on the weekend, completely cleaned it.
