Well.. where do we ever have that direct kind of democracy you are looking for? All democratic countries works in the way that we vote in a party, and then they decide which person goes where, Foreign Affairs, Defence etc. etc. Why is it different that they pick who will sit in the European Council?

Imagine all the loss of income that Britain will suffer, the tourism will go down, trading will be made harder, you will loose a lot of good will in the european markets..

And the citizens of Great Britain won't be able to travel as freely through Europe either. Everything will be more difficult. It is just beyond me why any country would want to be less globalized and more isolanist in this time and age.

Being able to elect the people who represent you isn't direct democracy. It is the bare minimum of any function democracy and the EU fails to meet these bare minimum requirements.

And no, I do not need to imagine any of these things because they are completely fictitious. The EU is the ONLY trading bloc in the world which is stagnate, meanwhile non-EU countries in Europe are doing a lot better trading wise than any of them. Tourism? Half the people who visit the UK for touristic reasons are not even from the EU.

And yes we will, the other non-EU countries have no problem traveling through Europe. I've traveled and worked in Europe for years, I met many different nationalities who barely had any problems with their travel. I have friends from Australia who spend almost 3-4 months a year in Europe.

You don't seem to get it. You have elected them by voting them in to you government. They then pick who of them, the elected officials, who will be part of the council. They have been elected.

Please explain to me how they are fictious? Do you imagine you will be able to trade with the European Union under the same terms? No, you will have to negotiate a new deal. And the European Union is the closest major trader you have. And, if you don't mind, can you show me some statistics or an objective study that shows the EU trading is stagnating? From what I have seen, the EU trade has gone better every year. Oh, and also some factual evidence that half the people visiting Britain is not from the EU? And even if it were so, loosing half your tourism would be pretty bad.

I am not saying you won't be able to travel, but it will be harder for you. And you will have to get a work visa everytime you are going to work in another country. So I imagine that will make things a little harder don't you?

EDIT: Sorry, I realized I sounded a little harsh in the opening there but I mean truly no offense, and I love debating. It's just that it is 28 degrees here and Im slowly melting away.

Agreed @JC Denton- I've lived in Germany and Poland for 4 years. Most workers in studios there don't hold EU passports, even as an EU passport holder you still have to go through all the paperwork to get registered for tax and council - same place, same building... all go to though the tax and visa offices whether you're EU nat or not. There will be no problems at all hiring or getting visas, many instances they'll hire you and you'll get a temp visa until your proper visa arrives so you can work asap... easy. Companies want the best, they'll get them and governments will support them. It's more TAX!. But that's just the small talk of it all, Leaving the EU has BIGGER reasons than trade and travel.

You just missed my point entirely, that is not democracy. The UK has problems with democracy that many people decry, see my point about House of Lords. The EU has the only Parliament in the world which does not act as a parliament, why? The true power lies in the unelected commision. Just because the government appoints them doesn't mean they aren't unelected, the power they have is ridiculous. Taxation without representation IS NOT DEMOCRACY, and never will be. They are taking OUR MONEY, they are representing OUR FAMILIES and we have NO SAY OR INPUT onto who represents us and puts forward our laws.

Britain is one of the largest economies in the world, London is the economic capital of Europe and the most populous city. All of this was true after the EU, during the EU and the inevitable collapse of the EU. Saying that Europe would stop trading with us is ridiculous, in fact the head of the BDI, which represents German industry, has said that his organisation will press politicians in Europe hard to make sure businesses in the UK and the EU retain full, equal access to each other's markets after Lexit. Why? Because losing one of your biggest trading partners would be disastrous for any European nation. The UK would, could and maybe should start looking east to China or to South America, being able to negotiate favourable deals. Instead we have to factor in lagging economies like Italy or Spain and their mass unemployment problems, as well as the emerging economies of the EU because the EU is the total package.

A travel visa for the entire schengen zone is about 40 euros. For a minimum of 30 days. And is not hard to obtain. I had to get a work visa for Australia too, but it didn't stop me going there to work - nor does it stop Australians who account for 20% of immigration to the UK. Australia, if you recall, is one of the most prosperous nations on the planet that avoided the recession completely because they value their sovereignty, borders and economy.

I lived in Italy and Spain for a year. It was just as much of a ballache paperwork wise as it would've been without the EU; the only difference is that my employer didn't have to pay 50 euros for a working visa that I would've easily qualified for anyway as a skilled worker.

But hey! You hear that plebeians? Cheaper holidays and cheaper mobile networks! Surely worth the price of sovereignty, democracy and right to self determination.....

Voted leave

Finally got into the polling station, Its clear that most of somerset way up to Bristol will be a vote for leave overall, Brilliant turn out all thanks to Liam Fox, Jacob Rees Mogg and a special thanks to David Cameron ( For his daily scaremongering which has turned a lot of people I know to vote leave)

Already made my argument for staying here, well worth a good read if you have a few mins.

Regardless of how you vote, make sure you voice your opinion

In the words of these guys....

Brat back from the dead laying down the law lol

Im In, to be fair its still a little vague to me but i see more advantages for me personally by staying in

I voted to remain in the EU,

  • because there will be no difference in "Security" or Defence, due to requiring to re-enter the single market so free movement will happen anyway. Plus lets not forget member of NATO and we have a permanent position on the UN Security council.
  • Free Trade is better for Britain, Food is cheaper, Products are cheaper, anything that goes through the EU is cheaper.
  • My local economy runs on factories that rely on EU trade and the open market to operate. Airbus and TATA are major international companies and it is crucial that they remain able to trade.
  • A more pervy note? , David Cameron and the Conservative party have already censored our pornography to some degree, and the fact is the Conservatives are well the Conservative party (Meaning family values are a high priority) they will start putting in measure like they already have to censor parts of the internet and the EU aggressively defends a free and open internet.
  • Prices of travel, will go up, want to know why? Because Airlines can do what ever they want and they are not gonna pass savings on to you.
  • Calais, a hot topic, asylum seekers will be able to gain access to British shores easier if we leave as of current via the EU membership we have a deal with France allowing our border patrol to secure the ports and the tunnel at Calais. If we leave France may repeal this deal and allow asylum seekers to get onto UK soil. Why is this important? because once they are on the UK soil they can apply to get asylum, for all of you guys wanting to stop immigration it is actually better in the EU. From the EU the majority of immigrants come here get an education and either leave or stay and become a productive member of society.
There are many more reasons to vote Remain but I will leave it at this for now.

P.s. The age bracket with the largest Vote leave are the Over 65s who will probably all have voted, why should the older generations make a decision that to be very frank about the situation, won't effect them for the same amount of time it will effect every other generation. This is in contrast to polls for Age 18-34s which have a large majority Vote Remain.

Just want to add a quick point to what you said there Brat before I waffle on! ...I have never voted for a Junker (only name I know!) and I am not sure how I would vote for someone else.... I disagree that MEP's should make that decision for me.

Anyway last thing ill say on this! Either way our opinions are not going to be swayed I know my isn't... here is some more of my personal views.

I am certain if we leave we can strike deals a lot faster, The EU has a lot to loose from us leaving than they do us staying... I cannot see France/Germany imposing tariffs on selling/buying goods to the UK when the majority of cars on the road here are French and German.

I personally work for a German company based in Germany, If for example I cannot get a work visa then guess what! I will find a UK based company to work for, The UK has never really integrated with Europe... most of us do not consider our self's even European but English/British/Scottish and Welsh.

The polls show the country is pretty much split down the middle over this issue and its not just the UK... I do believe Italy & France are the same.

The EU is running out of time, If there is not a Brexit I am pretty sure it will split in another form a few years down the line, and there is nothing that I or you can do about that, I think the UK will be in a better position leaving first than going down with that sinking ship.

I believe the EU has taken away part of my right to democracy, I have disliked the scaremongering of Cameron & Osborne especially... and Jeremy Corbyn seems to be just on the remain side not to loose his position, Its clear from what he is saying its like he hasn't made his mind up... and I wouldn't be surprised if he secretly votes leave today.

I think we are rolling the dice if we stay in and not if we leave.... People say the leave campaign has not answered questions... but will they really be the ones deciding decisions if we leave... no the entire parliament will be! So its a shame no one from the remain camp has gave a honest opinion of what they would do if we leave, Its clear we cannot do anything if we remain, Mr Cameron and his negotiation skills failed that in February... If he got a better deal I might have voted remain.

Todays decision is crucial to our country, Really think about it before voting.

Come on Samuel... age discrimination is extremely unfair, These are people and alot of them had to fight for this country and put up with the aftermath of a world war, They have equal rights to vote too you and I!

I completely agree, that they have the same right to vote and to choose the vote that is right for them, however the people who put up with the aftermath of the world war also banned/removed apartheid and general racism from most governments in the world, However they have probably the biggest voice (due to turn out) over a vote which will effect the younger generations, it actually pains me that younger people are less likely to vote.

mmmm its a bad statement to make and very bad view to give..... Lets keep this topic clean, discrimination cannot be accepted.

I think every person is capable to voting what is right for them... lets keep controversial and discrimination out of this one as much as we can also just to add the only people I have spoke to face to face and I have discussed this with quite a few people... who I know are voting remain in my area are over 60 themselves.

Yes they had a very selfish view (worried about there savings offshore) but none the less... that's what has driven them to vote remain and it should be respected.

That is a slightly one sided thing to say, there was also Boris and Nigel scaremongering. But the pig farmer was also scaremongering.

The debate has been bad from both sides I do agree... however Cameron and Osbourne have been the worse... and that's what drove me from being neutral at that point to out.

You will find everyone at this point is one sided, I hope people standby there votes when we look back on this years to come :)

Not much will change, the UK is one of the worlds biggest economies, do people seriously think that the worlds 5th largest economy will collapse.

I certainly don't think so. Come on Britain have faith in yourself.

Today I took full advantage of my right to chose to vote! ...And as usual I chose not to vote at all.

Perhaps I'm just losing the plot, but as far as I can tell there's reasonable arguments both for and against leaving/remaining. On top of that we have an astounding number of unreasonable arguments for both leaving/remaining.

The simplest I can put it is - would I like to be fucked by Europe, or be fucked by Britain? The average chap has been fucked for thousands of years, and every so often we get to say who we would like to be fucked by. Ideally I'd like to stop being fucked, but as that's not an option, I'll just sit back (as usual) and watch the world burn. Plus, as my choice will not be responsible for any fallout that occurs later, I will relish criticising things when they do inevitably go wrong.

Good luck to both parties, I hope you find what you are looking for.

The views stated are the sole opinions of DainMK, and do not reflect those of RPUK as a whole. RPUK remains neutral on this issue, as do I... Huh.. I guess it does reflect them...
