Windows 10 mic level

Since a few weeks ago, my mic levels on windows 10 have stopped working. The slider is stuck at 0 and cannot be moved up. I have had 3 microsoft tech support to have a look at it but they cant get it working. Due to the mic levels, my mic keeps going quite or cutting out which fucks over my comms also means i have to repeat stuff which annoys me. I have tried reinstalling drivers, restoring backup from about 2 weeks ago, new replacement headset etc.

make sure "allow Applications to control this device" is unticked

would recommend full uninstall and re-install of the driver, so it recognises it as a new audio device.

why is your audio device set to Digital S/PDIF. Does you headset connect by optical? What else shows up under devices?

It's connected via USB (using their sound card USB). Those other devices are built in and are disabled as they are a load of crap.
Generally Digital S/PDIF is digital optical/RCA audio jack. 99% of USB headsets etc, should show up as their own playback/recording device.

Can you show me screenshots of your Playback and recording device windows?

additionally: http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-2609805/hyperx-cloud-microphone-volume-nonadjustable.html on this site it states when plugged in via the USB controllr, the mic-vol is always set to 0 and is unadjustable. There is possibly a switch at the side of the box that mutes your mic - check that isnt muted, and also that the mic volume is turned up on the box.

Though even still - it shouldnt show up as Digital S/PDIF so i feel there's something still awry.

Yeah, it's not muted or anything as people can still hear me its its quiet, also the mic level is at max. I don't know why it's digital S/PDIF and got no idea how to change it

cheers, i just realised i was looking at loody lionel's screenshot about the S/PDIF thing.

Ok so your headset is set as the recording device, mic vol on the external controller is turned up, but you're still quiet to everyone else?

Have a feel on the mic and just ensure the actual mic bit is in front of your mouth as the hyperx2 mics can be uni-directional and if they're not facing you, wont pick up much sound.

Yeah, my mic is in the correct position as it used to work perfectly. It just cuts out for no reason.

Can you try it without the usb dongle thing?

Also i'm reading the mic is detachable. Can you detach it and if it has a standard 3.5mm jack on it, plug it in to the mic-port on your computer and then do a skype echo test or something, check that mic is working right, and at the same time check there's no dirt etc in the port on the headset.

Then plug it back in and make sure it's firmly engaged.

it works without the USB as it doesn't use the HyperX drivers and doesn't recognise it as a seperate device
that's fine - it'll be the motherboard sound card will be the device. It's just to test the mic is working and not faulty, or the dongle isnt faulty.
