Similar experience happened to me. I was at the weed field with a PC and a CSO. We saw two trucks pull up so we ambushed them and put ourselves in strong offensive positions. There were two men collecting the drugs and only one was armed. They were surrounded with limited cover or means to defend themselves yet they still decided to try and shoot their way out. After killing the CSO (who wasn't taking advantage of cover) and got a headshot on the PC as he popped his head up I began to feel less in control. The unarmed rebel picked up the PC's weapon and they began surrounding me. I issued a final warning before I engaged and ended up shooting both of them. The lost their trucks and gear. Not to go into full cop mode, but speaking from my own experiences. I was trained to fight tooth, nail, and to never surrender. The last time I even heard of a police officer being taken hostage in my State was years ago, and he did "value his life" only to end up in the truck of a car and shot in the head.
In fact it's in my department policy that you will never surrender your weapon or any police equipment including radios.
Granted it's a video game, but I really think the whole "Value your life" should work both ways. The other night me and a CSO were on Patrol and I saw a HEMMIT parked right at the drug dealer. As soon as I started walking up to the church I heard "Go Away!" and before I could even respond, two armed men inside decided to take a shot at me.
I took cover, and one of the armed men decides to rush right at an Officer armed with a fully automatic MXC. I took him out, and I offered his friend a chance to RP surrender, but sure enough that person rushes me, and I took him out as well. So two men decided to die just for a HEMMIT full of Marijuana.
This is a clear scenario in which the term "value your life" has no meaning.
-The rebels could be accused of not valuing their lives when they decided to return fire. However, they were able to take out 2/3 officers surrounding them.
-I could be accused of not valuing my life when I was surrounded by the two of them. However, I knew I was able to take them both out. I could have surrendered, but even if I did they still were likely to shoot me, rob me or take me hostage.
Rebels often accuse cops for failing to value their life when the officer decides to defend himself and win. This goes visa versa of course. It's also common that you could be robbing someone who takes a chance with their pistol, sometimes they win sometimes they don't.
You can almost always accuse someone of not valuing their life but it rarely means anything. A scenario can go down unexpected paths which you can't know until they happen.
