Usable Cones & Road Barriers

So I know there used to be other items you could use like spike strips, such as cones and road barriers..

What I am wondering is, why were they removed? They would be excellent use for ARAC roleplays, as now ARAC seems to be a bit dead and only used to spawn at the airport.

Do you think they should be brought back?

they would make cars or the cones and barriers desync and cause crashes I believe.

True, but maybe people should drive more carefully.

I just imagine seeing a car crash with some barriers around it for a decent RP. I personally would probably use the actual ARAC's normal use if such a thing was in game again

Pretty spot on as far as I'm aware. The cones were individual objects which caused insane desync (if anyone was here to remember the awful desync issues from a few months ago, imagine that but multiple times worse)

There is also a lot of room for people to cause issues due to ARAC not requiring anything other than money and doesn't have an interviewing / testing process like in whitelisting groups so could potentially be used to buy huge numbers of cones / barriers and cause lag. From an RP perspective they would be "nice" certainly but they aren't really needed for the tradeoff of stability.

I believe it was causing the server itself to lag, and players to have frame drops. I believe there was also the discussion of players abusing them to do naughty things. Perhaps we'll see them in the new framework when things will be more stable :)

It'll be cool if added in, I used to play a Takistan Life server on ArmA2 ages ago and the police would put barriers down on a road to close it off as the Prime Minister was coming through and it was awesome! Driving past it or up to it and seeing people RPing.

We used to have them but they caused too much lag and desync on the server. Please no more, unless it's re-scripted and won't be as bad..

Ahh I didn't know they caused all that issue. Well yeah if the new framework is more stable then they would be great to have, maybe with a rule in place for them not to be used for roadblocks or robberies, just crash roleplays only or something.

@Lincoln From last I heard, Wilco said that all user-placable objects were removed (excluding housing crates for obvious reasons) because when a major amount of objects were placed by a user it had a very, very high chance of crashing the server, since that day there have been no user-placable objects and probably never will be again, it's too risky to implement.

I remember all the times hobos would put them in unsavoury places.... trolls.... and as you drove past, BOOM.

No pls :)

@Rathgave me a few good reasons not to have them. Seemed to cause more issues than enjoyment...

While I understand that ARAC/Civs having them causing more issues then solutions for creating a better RP experience, the Police should have them. When conducting investigations, it becomes pretty hard to role-play when you have a dozen hobos running around the "crime scene" or trying to chat and lock-pick your car. Having a police barrier or "POLICE DO NOT CROSS" tape could add another level of role-play and improve police investigations and activities especially in cities like Kavala.
