Unripe Fruit

Why is it when im in prison when i pick oranges and apples they are ripe but then when i go to the designated places for apples and oranges which is a longer process they are unripe when i pick them. like the prison doesnt have the climate of the tropical rainforest. it needs to be when you pick the fruit its ripe straight away surely no?

It used to be like that in the beginning of the server. I think it was implemented like this as everyone preferred to go pick some oranges and continue with their day, so they didn't have to pay for food and had free food all the time.

but when you pick it will it eventually turn ripe?
