Unban Appeal - John Quantum - GTA RP

Status
Not open for further replies.

Server: GTA RP
Character Name: Chris heezy
Steam ID: 76561198125345918
Ban ID (just the numbers): 12690
Ban Reason: c2.3 combat logging in RP
Why do you think you were banned: I was banned for combat logging, but I believe this was a misunderstanding as I was involved in a very weird situation.
Essentially I was in waiting to get keys cut for my home, and I was approached by a gang and I was mistaken for a rival gang member, due to wearing a suit. They then took me hostage, they put me in the trunk of their car and said they were going to kill me and leave me somewhere no one would find me.
As it was so long ago, I can't remember the gang that I had this interaction with but I understand not regardless of the circumstances and how I felt about the situation, logging off is unacceptable and ruins emersion for all other players involved.
Why should we unban you: I hope to be unbanned and prove to you, the staff and server that I have made an effort to rectify my previous offences.

I understand that I am owed nothing as i should not have gave anyone reason to ban me in the first place, however it would mean a lot to me if i could be involved and play on your server again as I recall having very positive experiences the whole time before my ban.

I would also like to think that since having such a long time away from the server that I've had plentiful time to consider my actions and to be honest, I've just grown as a person. I would not make any silly mistakes like that again, as I don't want to ruin anyone's experience in RP and of course I don't want to put my place in the server in any further jeopardy.

I really hope you consider unbanning me, please accept this message as a formal apology and I really do hope i get the chance to prove to you guys that I mean what I have said, and that I am not the type to say false words and throw them in anyone's face.

Thank you for taking the time to read through my appeal.
Kind Regards,
John Quantum

Good evening @John Quantum

I hope all has been well?

This situation isn't what happened, is it unless you happened to have combat logged more then once? Go in to a little more detail about this situation? Why did you log out from this?

What about a time when you had been shot, logged out a few moments later and decided to login at a separate time so you could be taken to hospital?

Hi Jessie, thanks for getting back to me so hastily.

I can't lie I am quite stumped here as I can't seem to remember this event with great detail unfortunately.

I assumed that the event in relation to my ban was what I spoke about in the post above, this was because I looked at my ban appeal from May 6th 2023 and since its been so long I've just been trying to piece that together.

I have 700+ hours on CMG so maybe I've gotten mixed up, (to note, I am not banned from CMG).
With all honesty the only thing I can think of is that one time me and some friends were at the construction building and we had fallen and as a result were incapacitated.

After waiting an hour or so I recall we decided to log of as we didn't receive help from the NHS, I assumed this was either because there was no one on, or we were in a location that they could not reach.

Admittedly, I may have gotten some details long as it was such a long time ago, and I really cannot put the pieces together in my head.

I really would love to give you a detailed explanation but I'm afraid that I don't process much context, again due to how long it has been.

However if at any point I am given more information about the incident you are speaking of, I'd be more than happy to elaborate.

I do apologise for the inconvenience, and I sincerely hope you understand I'm not being avoidant of this, it purely has just eluded my mind at the moment.

Good afternoon @John Quantum

I hope all is well?

I will give the benefit of the doubt in this,

I have 700+ hours on CMG
Tell me more about the roleplay you provide there

After waiting an hour or so I recall we decided to log of as we didn't receive help from the NHS
You didn't fall from any building as stated above, you were shot disconnected 3 minutes later, reconnected 2 minutes later. You later logged back on and was revived at hospital. Why did you log off after being shot?

The roleplay I've provided on CMG is quite extensive. However these are the ones worth noting:
HMP Command PA2 over the period of 5-8 months of the top of my head.
I also played as the gang leader of a Russian RP gang, named "The Russian Mafia".
Additionally I logged some hours with the Metropolitan Police and NHS.
If you'd like some proof or further insight, I'm sure I still have some clips saved that will reflect most of what I've said.

With the logging incident, the only other thing I can think of was the situation I mentioned but after sitting on it a few days and conferring with people i might be able to offer more insight on that incident.

I remember I was at Paleto Bay, waiting to get some keys cut, then a gang approached the Gruppe 6 staff and after having some back and forth with each other I'm sure a fight broke out and then people got shot, I was caught in the crossfire and mistaken for a rival gang member, at which point I was questioned and I tried telling them that I had no involvement and was there simply to get keys cut, in between this and getting put into the trunk of their car, I was shot being rendered incapacitated.

I recall being fairly frustrated as I felt this whole ordeal was poor RP as this gang was persistent that I was somehow involved and they treated me very poorly, some stuff like name calling that would never really get to me, got to me. While in the trunk they were telling me that I was dead, and that they were going to dump my body somewhere no one could find me.

And I now remember being really upset with this, as I felt that this RP was really unfair and that they were just griefing me, I didn't know how to report players at the time, and I think I've just had enough and turned my game off.

At this point I joined my discord and told some people about how frustrated I was and a friend told me that I was being stupid and that I could potentially be faced with repercussions and at which point I somewhat snapped out of how I was feeling and logged back on.
I think in the moment, the fact that this was against the rules just eluded me, to be clear, I knew it would be considered combat logging but I was just so annoyed with how this situation presented itself and how it unfolded, and was especially annoyed with how the players conducted themselves and I've just decided that I've played enough today and I was no longer in the mood to play.
To be clear I say this not to excuse my action but rather to explain them.
I may have some of these finer details somewhat skewed but I think I am on the right lines.
After being told this, I made sure to log back on as quickly as possible and as you mentioned I received medical care and that was the end of it.

I am really sorry if somethings still raise questions, I really am trying very hard to remember all the details however, it's hard as I've already caught myself blending some events together due to how much I've played on other servers and the time I've spent in similar locations.
Please let me know if you need anymore information and I will try my utmost to help you with it and get you to your conclusion.
I want to thank you for giving me the benefit off the doubt on this, I appreciate the understanding you have given me.

Thanks again for your time,
John Quantum

Thank you for your reply

I recall being fairly frustrated as I felt this whole ordeal was poor RP
As much as I appreciate this, I also wonder why then would you think it is fair to take things in to your own hands? One rule break does not justify another rule break

I joined my discord and told some people about how frustrated I was and a friend told me that I was being stupid and that I could potentially be faced with repercussions and at which point I somewhat snapped out of how I was feeling and logged back on.
Why did it take this friend mentioning something to you for you to think about the combat logging rule?

I knew it would be considered combat logging but I was just so annoyed with how this situation presented itself and how it unfolded, and was especially annoyed with how the players conducted themselves and I've just decided that I've played enough today and I was no longer in the mood to play.
What is to stop this from happening again?

I’m am under no illusion that I was wrong in my judgment, I take responsibility for my own actions and apologise wholeheartedly for doing what I did.

I shouldn’t have taken this into my own hands and I couldn’t agree more. One rule break does not justify another. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

In regards to my friend telling me to log on, it was a conversation that we both had and he wasn’t solely responsible for me coming to this conclusion. However admittedly he played a part, I think it was in his best interest to help me compose myself at the time as honestly, I was quite clearly being irrational with my decision making.

He was just doing what a friend does and kept me on the right track when I was acting of key.

Simply put, I will stop this from happening. I have learned a lot about these sort of servers and what’s acceptable and what is not. I have made a conscious effort to better myself in tense situations I may find unfair. And always try to react appropriately.

Additionally I believe I have simply learned from my mistake, I am completely taking responsibility for my actions and want to show you I will rectify this and will be sure to adhere to ALL rules to the best of my ability.

I want to apologise to you personally also, for having to deal with this situation.
I understand that this is your role however I still feel guilty nonetheless for making you deal with this.

Thank you again, for taking the time to read through my messages and getting back to me as quickly as you have been.

Thank you for your response

What would you do differently if the same sort of situation happened again?

Please quote the combat logging rule for me and explain in your own words why you think this rule is in place.

If a similar situation were to occur, I would just stay in character and continue RP until the interaction had ended, I now have the ability to clip things with ease so if I didn't think this situation was fair I would make a ticket and get in touch with staff to see what they think and provide evidence should I be prompted to.
I will make sure to stay on the server for the duration of any interaction.

Combat Logging (C2.3) -
"Logging out at any point during RP is exploiting. Some examples of this include: logging out during a firefight, being chased by the police, arrested by the police, while dead awaiting a medic, logging out in order to save gear, rage-quitting, logging out whilst restrained/detained. Punishment is a permanent ban. Staff can make an informed decision depending on if you’ve made an attempt to resolve the issue. We do suggest you attempt to rejoin the server and continue the roleplay (try messaging them with the mobile system first)."

I believe this rule is in place primarily to push positive experiences within the server and all interactions, remaining true to the title of RP meaning that even if you are on the negative side of any particular situation you must remain in character to ensure that everyone receives authentic, immersive and fair gameplay, as well as RP.

Additionally, I feel that this rule is especially important because if it were not a rule, it would impact player engagement. For example, I have many hours on DayZ and I am no stranger to being involved in tense firefights which I know me and my team are about to win, then the opponent logs off before we can reach them, rendering all of our hard work in chase of their loot pointless.
This gives the player that logged an unfair advantage over the other players as the essentially get away with losing a fight and avoid the risk of losing their loot and leaves the opposing players to face the consequence of this event.
In these cases, I feel if there were such a rule the players that earned the desired outcome are given security that this will almost be guaranteed and the other players don't get a 'get out of jail free card'.

I would also say that it encourages player accountability, (something that I have personally come to learn) during RP, I think that bans for combat logging reinforce the idea that all players should be accountable for their actions whilst in RP or any other game for that matter. If a player knows that they cannot just dc to avoid the consequences, they would be more likely to engage with the RP more thoughtfully and respectfully of all players involved.

Sorry for the delay in my response, I was busy for majority of the evening for a friends birthday.

Thanks once again, for your time.
Sincerely,
John Quantum
