The date of your ban.
10/08/18

Member of the team that banned you.
Roberts

Reason given for your ban.
2.5 - Combat Logging

The Server you initially were banned on.
Server 1

In your own words, please type why you think you were banned.
I was restrained by a group of rebels outside of Kavala when I was on a run with an NHS member and logged off the server before I was released.

Why should we unban you ?
As both myself and the NHS member arrived to the scene of 2 dying rebels, and one injured, I made it clear to the NHS member I was "going to sleep" soon. After the NHS member revived both rebels, I was knocked out and restrained. The NHS member then had to leave. I again made it clear to the rebels that I had to log off, but they ignored me. In an attempt to avoid combat logging, I requested an admin through the servers messaging system. I explained my situation about needing to log off the server and being restrained. An admin (Roberts I believe) did appear shortly after, he checked the rebels inventory and left. I was running out of time because I had something to do "off the island", and left.

I regret having to leave hastily but at the time I felt I had no other choice. If I had more time I would've stayed until the situation played itself out. I wasn't sure what to do after the admin had left along with the rebels ignoring my explanations and dragging on the situation.

@Sydney you sent an admin request about you having to leave and just a few seconds later you combat log. You did not even wait for a reply. Whats the point in sending one if you dont want a reply?

@Sonder I sent out an Admin request and waited. An admin did appear a minute or so after my request. He walked around the rebels and checked one of their inventories and then disappeared again. I was running around of time and couldn't wait much longer because of something I had to do in real life. I waited a couple more minutes to see if the admin would appear again or respond but he didn't. Like I said, if I had more time I would've let the situation play itself out, but I couldn't.

quote me the rule you broke and explain it in your own words.
Also tell me what have you learned from this situation?

(2.5) Combat logging at any point during RP is exploiting. Some examples of this include: logging out during a firefight, being chased by the police, arrested by the police, while dead awaiting a medic, logging out in order to save gear, rage-quitting, logging out whilst restrained/detained. Punishment is a ban. Staff can make an informed decision depending on if you’ve made an attempt to resolve the issue. We do suggest you attempt to rejoin the server and continue the roleplay (try messaging them with the mobile system first).
Combat logging is purposefully logging out of a game to escape a roleplay or combat situation, among other things.

Although I'm not sure what I'm supposed to learn from this situation in particular. I'm fully aware of what combat logging is, and I knew it was punishable. This is why I made an attempt to contact an admin when I had no choice but to log off due to personal reasons in real life. Like I've stated before, I would've stayed on to continue the roleplay if I had the time.

But if there was a better way for me to handle that situation, please let me know. @Jefke V

Well lets turn the tables and ask YOU what you think a better way of handling this would be?

@James_W12345 If I had the time, I would've continued with the roleplay until either I was let go from the hostage situation or executed. If I needed to go in a hurry, I would try to speak to my captors both in character and OOC, trying to explain that I couldn't stay any longer to continue the roleplay. If my captors decided to drag on the roleplay situation knowing I didn't have time to stay, I would try to contact an admin through the mobile messaging system in-game, to see if there's a way for them to intervene.

All of which I did do. But the admin left the situation, and the captors kept dragging it on. So I'm honestly not sure what else I could've done. Especially since I did not have teamspeak at the time of the incident to contact for further help.

@James_W12345 I did use the side chat briefly but I can't recall what I said, as this happened 6 days ago.

Hi Sydeny

After reading through this report, it seemed like you did do everything  that I'd expect if someone has to log off for RL reasons.

However the main issue I have is that you state that you explained to the other party in direct // chat that you had to leave.  Checking the chat logs at that time, the only interaction that took place between you and the other party was this :

08/10/2018 2:50 AM
(Direct)
Whongcheng
you cant do that while u witht he medic

I'm going to bed

Elizabeth left the server.

Going further back through the chat logs for that night, you had a previous direct chat with Whongcheng that in my eyes, throws suspicion on why you left so abruptly the second time.

It's clear from the chat logs that you made no attempt to explain out of RP to the other party that you had a pressing RL issue and that you couldn't stay to RP.  Seems to me like you weren't happy with the RP or had some kind of beef with Whongcheng so decided to quit.

If I'd been in that situation, which I have been, I write a paragraph explaining why I leave, and offer to resume the RP at a later date.  You did neither.

So, I would strongly advise that your next reply is honest and accurately explains what happened and why you logged out abruptly during RP.

@DCC LONG BEARD

It's clear from the chat logs that you made no attempt to explain out of RP to the other party that you had a pressing RL issue
I said I used the chat briefly, but I explained to the captors I had to leave through voice chat as I was in a rush and the admin had just left the situation and the captors seemed to be OOC. I wasn't sure what else I could do at that point because I didn't have enough time, and I didn't feel comfortable explaining to two random people in-game why I had to leave in such a hurry.

If I'd been in that situation, which I have been, I write a paragraph explaining why I leave, and offer to resume the RP at a later date.
When something comes up and you have to leave at that very moment, you don't really have time to type out a paragraph, especially with two captors who refuse to listen to you. If I had the time, I would have let the situation played itself out, I've stated this several times throughout the appeal.

Also what I don't understand is why an admin came to the situation when I explained to them in the mobile messaging system that I had to leave in a rush, and then decided to leave me with the captors without saying anything other than "why do you have two rooks" to Whongcheng. Which was followed by them laughing and him disappearing. The same admin who banned me for combat logging, when he knew I had something going on in real life at that moment.

Listen, I am new to roleplay in Arma, and rarely have had any interactions with the admins in-game. When he left me in that situation, I wasn't sure what else I could've done. Like I said, I didn't have time to argue with the captors, or write a paragraph, and was relying on him to help. But at that moment he didn't seem like he was going to assist me which lead me to combat log out of the sheer fact I didn't have more time to wait and see.

Saying you need to go in RP is RP.  Hostile characters have no interest in your schedule in RP and would assume as I would it was part of the RP.

Out of RP in direct, you don't need to give out personal details about why you need to leave. At minimum, I'd expect you at least explain that something urgent has come up and you need to leave. Get them to acknowledge it, or at least give them a reasonable amount of time to acknowledge it.

I have no idea why the staff member showed up and left, but according to his notes, when he did show up, you were showing as 'losing connection'.

Lastly, you're stating that something came up and you had to leave "at that very moment" . This contradicts the chat logs in which you simply state you're going to bed.  At 2.57 am, that's perfectly plausible, and I'm not convinced something urgent happened.

Sadly Sydney, I don't think you're being honest, and for that reason I'm going to deny your appeal.

You may appeal again in a few days, and as I said in my last reply, I suggest you do so with honesty.
