Hey all, it's been a looooong time here, 25/26 months I think? Anyhow, it's time for this sadly!
I've been incredibly busy this year in academia. I've recently been researching down at the nuclear fusion reactor(s) in Oxford, and after a tonne of work have finished my summer stint there, with my first published research paper being co-authored and set to publish in the new year (hopefully!)
for those interested, this was the reactor I was loosely focusing around; http://www.ccfe.ac.uk/mast.aspx
I haven't really gotten the chance to do a proper last-play through on the server due to computer issues, summer exams, research etc, so I think it's best to draw things to a conclusion rather than just sort of fade out by not being active.
During my time here I've seen so many things, roleplay events, drama, the evolution of the server, lot's of people come and go. There are too many stories and memories to try and type out, so I think it is best to leave them as vivid as I can describe in the memories I have shared with those others to best do justice to them. (I'm not sure that sentence made sense in hindsight but w/e).
During my time here I have served in the UNMC, the police, one rebel group, the staff team, the most legitimate political organisation on the island, an illegal immagrant smuggling ring, civilian mining companies, an exorcist, private security, ice cream man, tour guide, medieval Japanese samurai, rally driver, hostage, game show host, medic, mechanic, general bit of a twat, the list goes on. There has been some great roleplay, both in events and on spontaneous interactions. Some fantastic gunfights, helicopter flights, the gunning down of several civilian jetskis with a police gunboat (trust me they were approaching me with knives!), fighting off the UNMC terrorists, fighting as the UNMC terrorists (cough*soldiers*cough). I want to thank all those who lead and are a part of whitelist factions, I've been made to feel at home wherever I go (except the redzone) and thankyou all for those precious memories.
Thankyou also to the rebels; without you there wouldn't be a population on the island to interact with. Thank you to the civilians, without you I would have no one to plant drugs on and falsely arrest (jk jk.... or am I?). Thank you to the devs. The server has changed so much since I started playing in mid 2015, with many new features being bought in, your hardwork is greatly appreciated. Thankyou to the staff and management team. I've never helped to run a community before, having always been a player and not seeing the other side to things. You do a great job under the pressure and I know exactly what it is you deal with. Thank you for helping me fulfil that role and for the memories you made.
At this point I would usually do mentions/specific named thankyous. In all honesty, I'm not going to do that. It would be an insult to those I inevitably forget to mention. You ALL know exactly who you are and the memories I have with you all is a true gift. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey, regardless of gang, faction, role etc. The events in game, and equally on teamspeak (because we all know just how fucked up things got on ts and slack lmaoooooo) are too unique and numerous to mention without taking away from them. A final thankyou for the memories made outside of Arma, on other games played with friends made here : ) Cards against humanity, watchTogther, Stellaris, and my Canadian empire on HoI : )
Adios all, good luck in life. Don't be a prick and don't end up being someone's Da who sells avon out the back of a van.
Regards,
Smith
