Woke up today, checked my phone to read the news that brought me to tears. The biggest little hero the Netherlands, perhaps of the world, has passed away.

This is Tijn. Tijn was 6 years old. The Netherlands met Tijn last year in December during the annual charity actiondays of Serious Request. Tijn came to the Glass House with his father and he explained how Tijn was very ill. Tijn had cancer of the brain stem, a rare and swiftly lethal form of cancer only found in young children. Their story was heartbreaking, yet their optimism and their dedication to help others put a smile to all of our faces. Tijn wanted to help other sick children. He offered to color their nails for a donation of 1 euro to Serious Request.

The country was taken by storm. ''Bekende Nederlanders'', famous people, politicians, actors, everyone walked around with colored nails for days. Tijn stood on the stage at the end of Serious Request to thank everyone. In the months after Serious Request, Tijn kept making the news with his charity work. ''Lak door Tijn'', translates as ''Coloring by Tijn'' became very popular and little bottles of nail coloring in his favorite set of colors were sold everywhere.

Last night, the charity reached their goal of 1 million euros collected for research into brain-stem cancer.

This morning, july 7th 2017, at 7:00, Tijn passed away in the presence of his loving parents.

Today a lot of people in the Netherlands will shed a tear for you, little hero. You have inspired us all.

A tribute to Tijn by a Dutch singer; ''You're an example to us all, you're a hero, a little guy, an everlasting beautiful story.. You're a hero, you'ra little guy, you are Tijn, with your story''

What an amazing  little guy.
Rest in peace <3

Yeah I woke up to a notification from the NOS (Dutch news site) as well. The good in him is something admirable. Last Christmas he brought a country together, a month ago he did it again with the nail polish line. And now, in his passing, he brings us together again to mourn someone with a pure heart who was sadly among us for far too short a time.

Rest in peace, little one. You're done fighting now, the whole of the Netherlands will pick up your torch and keep fighting to end the suffering of others. You and your amazing example to mankind will be missed.
