I realize this thread is pretty old, but I wanted to add my thoughts in on it since everyone seems to be against artists like Future, Young Thug, etc. And yes, I did call them artists.
Also, figured this is worth mentioning. I enjoy this music while being completely sober, crazy right?
Anyways, it's not about the lyrical content, it's not about the image, fuck all of that. You can't listen to songs like these as if it's a traditional song where the vocal tracks are a completely separate sound from the instrumentals. You need to act like their voices are just like the rest of the instrumentals. Pretend like it's another layer of sound.
The lyrics themselves though, if you actually look them up and read them, they're not very good.
I think music like this is unique and it paints a vivid picture, but it's not for everyone.
