What a night!
Hope everyone got some enjoyment from that. I wanted to use this post/thread to mention a few people that made this possible, talk about some of the lessons learned and get some feedback on how the event was.

Also with @Stavik now being banned, we will be opening up an interest form for the now open management position. If you feel you got what it takes click here: application process

SHOUTOUTS: For starters I need to mention some people that made this massive 4 day happening possible:
Pre-Events
- @Stavik created a really nice story in the few days leading up to the event with various news posts, tweets, mini events and one larger event on Halloween night. We wanted to start spreading some fear, confusion and panic. I think a lot of people had some very interesting nights and it was a lot of fun to see how things started evolving in RP. The fact that people started running around with water bottles as weapons, made my night!

- @GPlumb Without knowing anything about the storyline Liam Wyatt got pulled into one of the pre-events and without any OOC instructions or any cues he played his role perfectly. Top RP mate honestly really enjoyed that.
- Thanks to all the police that attended (even the salty ones that did nothing but moan for the first 10 minutes because they didn't know what was going on), It was a spur of the moment event with very little planning to it, but we made a fun evening out of it and it was lovely to see how the rumors started to spread throughout roleplay.

Thanks to everyone helping out as SAS, RAF, crazed patients, infected citizens @Nikolai @Slawek @Violet_ @Jesse @PsianaRama @George Harris @Aiden @Stuart @Hank Summers and I've probably forgotten a few sorry)

Purge Main Event
- @George Harris @Duke of Sussex and @1A3 who did most of the legwork in getting the purge scripts (originally written by @Paint and @Archie in 2022) working again.
And a special thanks to again to @1A3 who spent most of the evening on stand-by fixing bugs, and helping improve stability in the early hours of the event.

- We had a lot of staff members helping out in various ways, whether it was trying to protect from spawn campers in tanks, or assisting with reviving, or guarding the NHS as military / SAS / G6.
I will for sure forget a few because there were a lot but off the top of my head @Stavik @Nikolai @Slawek @Stuart @Bowen @Violet_ @Jesse @Jessie Bennett @Drex @Duke of Sussex @Danoo .

- @Aiden Those who crossed the line a little to far were kept in check by various RAF Units, but man if you fucked with Aiden, you got laid the fuck out. Lobbing a missile from an attack helicopter at speed into an open garage door in a small courtyard, I don't know how you did it.

- @NHS @Phoenix @Kyle Kamara @John Lawn Did a great job of leading this effort. This was the first time we did the combat medic stuff and IMO it worked quite well, people kept gear much more and a lot more people were helped by the NHS than was possible in the last event. I don't know all the names of the individual NHS members that attended, but thank you all for staying on and doing god's work. I had really expected it to only be fun for a little bit and that we would have any NHS after 2300, but I was so happy to see that this wasn't the case.

- @Gruppe6 @Duke of Sussex Amazing effort protecting the NHS, honestly we would not have had enough Staff/SAS to make it as effective as it was, so we will definitely repeat this.

And I have to say a big shoutout to a lot of the players. I was quite busy during the night, but I did get to spend a few moments roleplaying with people and spectating some people as they were genuinely trying to roleplay.

Lessons Learned
(Some of things we know we can improve for next time)

  1. Set your fucking clock properly I'm an hour ahead of most of you and summer time / winter time is hard man FFS.
In my defense I had the server window (GMT +0) on one screen, my own computer (CET) on another and a clock in front of me in CEST (because I forgot to set that back)
    1730558872612.png
  2. More and Smaller pre-events For the pre events and the build up the goal was to have a lot of small mini events and little things happening in roleplay hinting towards something big. On the night of Halloween one of them organically grew to something really big that took a 2 hours and we dragged it out a bit too long. Thus anyone who wasn't involved in that one, missed out, by the time we wrapped that up a lot of people had gone to bed because it was a weekday, a lot of people thought there was gonna be a main event that night, so were complaining they were missing out, when in reality they were only missing out on some small side events.
Bit frustrating for everyone, including us, because we were trying to get to everyone, but also wanted to keep the surprise and a bit of the tension. I think people struggle sometimes to keep the OOC out of it, they know there might be an event and they want to be involved in it and start complaining the second they feel left out. Even though, from a character perspective you shouldn't want to be near an infected patient at all.

  3. We need more respawn points. With this we felt you can't go in the middle, if you have a medium sized respawn area it is still quite easy to spawn camp and really hard to protect and guard as staff, so we thought we can either go really small or really big, because there wasn't a lot of staff we decided to go for really small to make it easier to guard. In the beginning it really turned into a shitshow, and though I haven't got conclusive evidence yet, I actually think it was all the dying and reviving and respawning that was tanking the server in the beginning. So next time I think we will go with respawning randomly anywhere on the map, which does mean you can sometimes get really unlucky but then again you will respawn somewhere completely different the next time so its probably not so bad.

  4. Bins need to refresh on a set interval regardless of whether they have been fully looted. Obviously, they were broken for the start so try and think passed that, but then we didn't really take into account the fact that people would constantly leave items in there, thus not clearing the bin and starting the timer before it refreshes. That is something we can do better next time.

  5. Progressively better loot. So with combat medics and more reviving we were aiming to make it so the game had a bit more progression and people kept their loot. Next time we should make it so as the event progresses the loot from both bins and crates gets a bit better. So that if you respawn you have a fighting chance. We started to emulate this a bit by going around and giving people some better gear, or fixing their broken weapons, but I think we got to the realization a little bit late. Maybe the same with vehicle rentals where as the evening progresses better vehicles become available. Could also be something where there are stages 1,2,3,4 and its not based on time but a dev can progress the event to the next stage or something like that.

  6. Zerging / big groups: This was something that was bound to happen and our initial approach was that we were going to monitor it and the military would step in if groups were to powerful (airstrikes, APCs, tanks etc.).
The problem was mainly that is actually really hard to see, lots of people are in hospital gowns, or random clothing and when you hear reports of large groups and fly over there isn't really a way to know who is who. So we need to think about a way to combat that next time, and I'm open to suggestions, because it is a hard one. Enforcing this with a rule kind of sucks, because the purge is usually about removing rules not adding more rules, plus you have the same issue where staff are really going to struggle to see who's who. So yeah open to ideas here, please let us know if you've got one.

  7. Spawn camping Similarly really hard to combat by just using military / staff assets, maybe we need a respawn invincibility thing or something like that where you can get away in the first minute, but maybe if you spawn randomly on the map and we give you 10s invincible, you don't need anything else to prevent spawn camping.

  8. NHS/Gruppe6 Combat Medics: I think this actually went really well and we revived a lot of people, especially when we added a triage point and split into pickup/extraction teams and treatment teams.
Maybe a few small improvements to be made here.
    - Make gruppe6 clothing and gruppe6 vehicles also the same color RED, sometimes unfair when you see something grey, shoot it and then get absolutely hammered by its air support.
    - Make staff members that can spawn in the vehicles also be able to change the color, at some point none of them were red anymore and it is harder and a little unfair.
    - Start with a triage point right from the start, and maybe go into 4 small teams instead of two big ones, especially in the beginning when there isn't much firepower on the other side, that way we can help more people and they respawn less and progress more in terms of loot.

  9. Being able to search dead people to make looting and assets more progressive.

Feedback
We are very keen to hear any feedback / suggestion on the event, but please keep a few things in mind:
  • Please read the above section (lessons learned) and don't put any obvious things already mentioned there.
  • Similarly, something like "improve server performance", or "don't have bugs" is not going to be taken very well.
  • Keep it civil, constructive and concrete. X is shit, or Y was unfair, or Z was boring, is just going to get deleted. Give us actionable things to consider implementing.
  • Please read each other suggestions and try to avoid a lot of duplicates, just hit like on each other's suggestions.
  • Keep in mind that we aim to spend very little time on the development of an event like this. Not that we didn't spend any time this year, but we need to try and keep a balance. In the end this event last for about 12 hours and it would be a waste to take away a month of development time from features and things that can affect the server more drastically for much more enjoyment hours in the day to day. Keep the suggestions small and manageable, things that are great ideas but a lot of effort are unfortunately quite useless for a big event like this.

Stats
Lastly here is a bunch of stats from last night:

  • Approximately 5200 deaths of which 4900 were kills by other players
  • 550 Revives by the NHS Combat Medic Team
  • Top 3 players by kills the end of the night
    1. Sam Jacobs with 87 kills
    2. Erik Ragnarok with 69 kills
    3. Mason Mack with 69 kills
  • Top 3 players by kill/death ratio (staff/RAF removed)
    1. Omar Farrell with 17.0
    2. Riccardo Genovese with 10.0
    3. Alex Barclays with 5.75
  • Only 3 actual bans, one of which was @Stavik , so that means people really behaved themselves and things didn't get too crazy.
  • 688 Unique players on the server during the event, usually we get about 500-700 in a a full 24H day, not a restart.
  • 1,551,968 GBP in cash picked up
And probably so much more, but now I really, really need to go touch grass.

Hope you had a blast, and please remember to put your funny videos and screen shots in #purge2024.

Whilst I didn't run into it myself, being G6 and having had the luck of being revived every time I went down, something that would both be really nice, and also help with point 6. (Zerging/big groups, and mainly being able to ID them).

It'd be really nice if when you respawn/hop in a bed at Pillbox, you keep your clothing and don't get set back to the hospital gown. Most people would want to (to some capacity) rep their group during something like this, even if just to be able to more easily ID eachother - which will by default make it easier to ID who is who for staff as well.

Overall, the event was incredibly fun, even if it did end for me with a false-positive ban (cheers for sorting that so quick @Nomad). From the perspective of G6, I don't have many suggestions on what I'd like changed outside of things you've already mentioned. Especially the scaling loot, the most fun firefight we had were the ones against people that were actually equipped to pose a threat to us, not just a couple people with SNS pistols vs us with head armor and fully automatic rifles. Us having some advantage due to our nature of 'bodyguards for NHS' totally makes sense and should remain that way, but it did feel a bit one sided at some points.

Was a fucking blast. We should do this more often! 1 big problem was the hospitals getting filled up. Maybe make it so when you check in during the purge all your injuries get cleared so it doesn't take so long to get healed, but there's still an avdantage to looking for NHS. And when you get up you keep your inventory/clothing. I wouldn't have minded finding a rev/marksman/deagle in the bin or even a low tier smg. Money was too hard to come by for the price of ammo (especially shotgun shells and AR ammo) and LMG ammo was nowhere to be found. I had a PKM and couldn't do anything with it :(. Besides that, it was fucking amazing and one of the best nights i've had on the server. I really think we should do this more than once a year. Great way to blow off some steam and have fun. And apparently people were actually behaving which is good to hear and positive.

As one of the combat medics I just want to say I had a blast out on patrol and when at the triage point, I do like the idea of having a triage area from the start and then sending teams out to collect people. One thing I will say is I think next time if we can have a building to use instead of being outside that would be quite nice and then get G6 to setup a perimeter. Also once we have the triage point setup maybe have only one helicopter for NHS and have the rest out in trucks like we had at the start as I know at the end we had quite a lot of helicopters and not a lot of ground units. All in all it was an amazing night and had great fun till 1.30am when I finally decided to log off, thank you to all the staff and devs your amazing!! 😃

Was a really fun pre-event that I was involved in initially I was so quite disappointed as I’m on a run of nights and thought I was going to miss everything but when you guys turned up was definitely interesting. Was really good to have something out of the normal day to day runnings of the NHS thanks for the opportunity

I ended up really enjoying the event, though people who came across me past 3AM could definitely tell I was absolutely exhausted after all the stuff that had happened. The NHS earning more money per pickup was pretty nice (and I wish that was the case outside of the event too cus im broke), I made roughly 200-300K over the course of the night. having spent 100K on a burger that @Kano stole from me and another 50 on a dozer that I abandoned pretty quickly. If my math isn't completely wrong I probably made nearly 100K off just my NHS paycheck alone and the rest through reviving people (somewhere around 100 people)

At some point team fudge pulled out a Valkyrie thanks to the Del Perro PDM funds which costed us 2M (Don't tell Bas) which I used to blast the hell out of anyone I deemed a threat (I may or may not have deemed a lot of things a threat) and it was incredibly fun to use, especially when at some point someone got into a turret and tried gunning us down with our own heli. I would absolutely love to see people be able to get more and better vehicles as the night progresses as it could inspire people to test their skills and challenge the G6/SAS/RAF that are protecting the NHS which would lead to some awesome fights.

Even tho I was only on for a bit, still had a blast! I'd be so down if we could do server wide events like this more often as it brings a lot of people together which is good for the community. Not necessarily just frag based events but like rooftop rumbles that we had ages ago and stuff along the likes of that. W staff for the purge tho

I must say the Combat medic side was a blast. I was in Team Fudge which utilised air assets to drop in to heated fights and get the area under control quickly. Ik from a far it seemed NHS was pretty OP but I assure you guys we 'only shot defensively' XD. Overall I think the NHS was integrated well into the event and the fact that people seemed relieved and had chance to have a brief break when we turned up was humbling.

To the police that all gathered together it was amazing to see you guys all banded together even though you were playing as normal citizens.

Overall I think this is the most fun I have had in a long time on the server. Thank you to all the staff and developers that made this possible.

Deffo should make this happen more than once a year!

I was one of the combat medics (The female one XD) and it was a blast! Didn't expect to stick around from 6pm untill 2am (3am my time) but it was so much fun I stayed untill i coudn't keep my eyes open anymore haha! I loved the ground convoy's we were in and being dropped out of heli's. The hellfire that they would get when they'd try to drive into us with cars etc. The people laughing when we'd give them medical aid.

a few of my favourite combat treatments..

Pushes Trauma Tampon into the Bleeding wound
injects
Morphine into AssCheek or buttocks
Tears off piece of shirt and wraps injured limb
Gives Headpat for emotional support... you need it

I would 100% like to see this again with combat medics and hopefully with a bigger team of medics attending!

We had a lot of good fun that night.

Sadly I wasn’t around when a massive group of people stormed the chapel, but from what I’ve seen from others perspectives it was absolutely class!

My 2 cents on what would I change after now 2 years of enjoying this event.

-Bins: they are the key part of the event. Once you just started or when you have been downed, that's the first place you are landing... I do belive it needs a change.
A1) Change bins so the gun drop is something like 1 in 10. I'd probably say I've spent over 50% of my time in the event on the bins, or mooving arround to find bins. And that's mainly what shut down people. You get wipped on a scrap (skill issue) and you go back to the bins. After 2 loops of this, people often don't find anything and they just log off.
A2) Make it so in bins they appear better guns than just a standart or a SNS, for example, machine pistols or heavys, but also make it that the ammo they go with the guns is little, so only allow 1 or 2 scraps; wich would go to point 2

- Drop boxes: I would change the content of the boxes to end-game guns such as revs, carabine riffles; but lower the ammount of guns inside it, for example to 1 or 2, so big groups will have to decide who's the best shooter or who gets the best guns

"NEW ADDITIONS"
- Golden drop boxes: New addition, make it so there are signaled as "gold" in the map, and it only contains 1 tier S+ gun, for example, a sniper rifle, but also contains moderate ammo so people cant become the grim reaper with it.

-Green drop boxes: With a "green" signaled on the map, they contain ammo for the guns, so people can stock up

-Dodgy car dealer: A NPC that spawns in the map at random locations, offering bullet resistant vehicles for people. Nothing too crazy, like a rumpo or a speedo custom, but also creates a point of reference where people can "scrap"
-Dodgy doctor: A NPC that spawns and well, just do what a dodgy doctor does, ress you on the spot, but also creates a interesting scrap point

Also, recovery times in hospitals should be speed up by far, so hospitals don't get that many people and help preformance.
Also staff providing security should allow downed people as long as they don't troll or shoot; In my personal case, all my squad was armed, and I got downed in a scrap, they tried to take me pillbox, and they were met with a KOS when they were just trying to drop me in, wich kinda started the downfall of the night for me.

"MONEY"
Money to purchase the services of the dodgy NPC's can be found in small quantity on bins, and at larger quantitys in the drop boxes.

I'd say, with this changes (always under my personal opinion) the purge will come more enjoyable, and will help people not to log off if they get killed 2 or 3 times in a row.

Valid Points:
A1: Drop rate was 1 in 5 (20%) Although I agree it didn't feel like that - The bins not being fully emptied means they didn't refresh so it looked like all bin just had apples and water in!
A2: Something to consider for the future!

Drop boxes: There were 6 different types of main crates that had different levels of loot (starting with basic up to end-game style)

Other items are defiantly a consideration for next year. Thanks for the feedback!
