If you are thinking about using Avid software for vídeo editing its not pro tools you will be loocking for, its Avid Media Composer. I have been using it for the last 3 years in my University and its quite a nice tool, not easy to get used to it tought. Adobe is also a nice tool for what you want, and it might be easier if you are used to other Adobe apps.
I have used both of them and as I see it:
Avid Media Composer --> Harder to learn --> More professional (its geat for video editing in local servers for multiple editing at the same time)
Adobe Premiere --> Easier to learn --> Does the job and you get the hang of it really fast
There are more, but this is the one I have used, so I can only give you feedback until this point
