Detailed Suggestion:
Background - during instances where the Police Dispatch/witness/victim does not have a name of the suspect
Currently I am receiving reports of crimes from witnesses and victims and I'm taking notes, as I would do whilst on patrol in my notebook. However that is where this stops unless I come across the suspect. If the crime is serious I could radio, but more often than not the frequency is too busy with chatter to be able to successfully transfer a description and alleged offence.
My suggestion is to use the PNC tablet and add another type of report 'Intelligence Report' or 'Intelligence'. This can be an exact carbon copy of the current report, however we need to remove the need for a suspect/person and either just remove the field altogether or allow for a description. This would then be the first place for colleagues to look when coming on to shift, it would also be a good place to review whilst processing suspects through custody to see if they match the description and the allegation can be put to them.
The Pros:
Improves policing/investigations
Provides a better service to the community
The Cons:
None, maybe a little bit more work for the Police to do.
