Sometimes when lockpicking it doesnt make the noise and it breaks the pick please fix

I've seen a couple people say this, and when I started lockpicking I thought it might be the case that sometimes you just can't do it.

I've found that I have to go in both directions for at least 2 rotations to listen for that 'notch' to be sure, and focusing on that sound. It can be easy to miss it.

If you cancel lockpicking before attempting to enter on one of the numbers, don't you keep your lockpick?
