Wilco

The King
Legendary Donator
Today we launch a community unban polls based on community feedback and due to the fact we have been here for 12 months now and alot of people have recieved a ban previously.

Please note this isn't a strike system, So do not feel you can not follow the rules with this as a fall back.

If a member from today who has been "active" with the community for over 5 months and have received there 2nd ban a community poll will be created in this forum: http://www.altislife.co.uk/forum/151-community-poll/

If the result is successful we will then unban for a FINAL chance.

What wont be transferred to a community poll:

  • Bans for admin abuse
  • Bans for abuse towards another members
  • Bans for advertising
This is at admin descresion and we may at any point decide not to move a 2nd ban to a community poll if we decide the member is permanently banned from our servers.

Rules:

  • You may not vote on your own poll or create accounts to vote on it.
  • You may not vote on a poll if that person is in your gang or faction (gangs/police/medic/UNMC)
  • The poll is open for discussion if you feel you can add good value to reasons why they should or shouldn't be un-banned
Hope you enjoy the new addition and this proves that we do listen to constructive feedback (not raging/moaning) from people who provide decent solutions.

I like the option. Gives the community the opportunity to vote for some one. And not strait a perm ban because one person has reported him because in that time frame he made a mistake,

Nice addition for the community

I think this is absolutely ridiculous, why not pin them against a wall and throw bricks at them too.

your telling me that for example, plf go to war with gc and unmc. I then get a ridiculous ban for speaking my mind and asking 1 simple question, I could have a potential of 40 people voting no, way to make a guy feel good no?

I could really see this is a form of bullying, is that the title your after wilco? The instigator? Fair enough if he's had 2 bans just get rid of him, but why let him sit and watch people slate and insult and press that no button? I'm sure it's gonna go down reallllllll well my man. I for one will not be taken part in these votes.. and anyone else who has a tiny bit of respect for people should be doing the same.

So you would rather people just be completely banned on the 2nd ban ? Any person may ask when a poll is put up or on there 2nd unban request that they do not want a poll.

Do not even try to put a title on me, I am getting to the point where i will not be responding to your posts or communication especially those connected to PLF.

This is not bullying its giving people who have been here for a long time another chance with the community giving the final vote.

There is no other way other than our previous system where its basically 2 strikes and you out, I see again another moaning post but no decent solution or an attempt of a solution offered.

If you don't want to take part then don't take part that is completely up to you!

Wow.. No need to be so hostile wolf.. Be more mature and take shit like this elsewhere

This is a good idea and gives people who have been here a long time a chance to get back even tho they get 2 bans.

Only way you will receive allot of no´s is if you made allot of people hate you anyways, it´s pretty fair

Let me first say that I really welcome the idea for giving longtime players more than the 2 chances everyone has now. I've seen from many reports that eg. RDM is not always as linear as it seems. Theres a big difference between straight up mowing several people down or a small mistake.

That being said Im not a fan of a vote. There is the risk this turns into a popularity contest. Some factions are massive and if you received your ban for doing something agaimst such a faction they could all vote you down. And what if you do get unbanned? You can see who voted no, potential for awkwardness in game.

I know this would be a lot more work, but I would prefer an admin talking to someone on teamspeak. Its so much different actually talking to someone than reading a wall of text. Ive had several instances where I assumed someone was a complete dick, but talk to them and theyre actually not that bad. Most of the time....

Let that person explain, possibly backed up with proof, such as forumposts and videos, why they can be an asset to the community. You could even run a small committee, but that would be more work.

Since it would only be for longtime members on their second ban, there shouldent be too many.

Support on team speak and running a small committee is not something that will happen or work here we simply do not have the time for it nor do we want to spend that much time on people who do not follow our rules.

All i can do which i plan to do this week is make the rules more clearer, I think it might be a popularity contest but if you have upset alot of people then you have only yourself to blame, its either this way or the previous way anything else will require more work which id rather the admin team spent elsewhere developing the server further and spending more focus ingame.

I think you should make it so those directly involved with them are not allowed to vote eg. The person(s) who reported them, and their own gang. This is so it doesn't become a matter of how many people you are friends/enemies with.

That's entirely understandable wilco. Like I said, I do welcome the idea. I hope also that this being an adult community people will try to be objective.

I like this idea, because the people who have stuck around for 5+months are obviously dedicated and at some point have probably donated to help the server, however I'm not too keen on voting as people may vote no just because they do not like that person or an occurrence has happened on the past.

I have another option which I think would work a lot better. If you know a player is dedicated and put countless hours into the server and has donated and helped the community, I feel they should be sat down with head of administration team and have a discussion with them, and explain to them this is there last final chance

Give it a chance guys.
Don't say no to something directly.

It is still better than just giving something a perm ban.

I'm not fond of this, it is not difficult to stay off the report a player list. I have done some things that would see me there, but I am always willing to repay anyone for anything that anyone has lost (Usually through my extremely bad driving). Now if people refuse to make the effort and communicate with the relevant people when approached, then in my opinion they are not worthy of a third chance...

The usual Bans are VDM, RDM, Trolling & Glitching. Now VDM can be accidental arma physics are a bitch and not much can be done about that but I am sure most people are fine with it if you have a chat and work out you disagreement, pay for the damage and be done with it.

Now RDM, Trolling & Glitching require a conscious effort to commit. Maybe you joined the server, didn't read the rules and made a mistake. Fair do's you get your second chance after reading the rules and understanding how this server works. But the second time you are reported for that? Surely then you have to think: "What will be different on the third chance?"

Maybe I am just harsh...

Do it like a proper court of random 10 advanced members on the forum being selected to talk about it and reach a conclusion.

if someone got banned and he didn't do any mistake in 1 month(maybe 2) just clean his ban history.. That'll be better. People do mistake. Eventhough we know the rules sometimes it happens its a game. Just one misclick might be caused to RDM. if he didn't get report after he got banned in 1 month, the ban history should be cleaned. I got banned before by sovereign (I believe it was desync I was talking to people but he didn't hear me while he was spectating me) anyway. While I am playing I dont feel comfortable if I do a mistake, I will be banned forever.

Or for the poll I guess there must be 50 chosen people to vote who will be able to objective to cases. Otherwise it will return to vote-war between gangs and haters.

I've been campaigning for a system like this for a while.

We're a big community and when regular players get banned it is a real shame. Sometimes it is of course just but other times it's jut bad fucking luck. The two strike system works fine for the most part but it can be deemed unfair if someone is on every day for a year and builds up the bans.

This poll system at least gives the player another potential crack to continue playing and put things right.

I also feel that bans should be absolved within a set amount of time (maybe 3 to 6 months) like the penalty points on a driving licence. We all make mistakes and any of us could be banned potentially within an evening. Yes... Really.

It's new and it's a change and not everyone will like it but if you then find yourself banned then this may be your life line. So please give it a shot before condemning it and please bear in mind when voting that these guys won't be back - ever. So love them or hate them, if they have been around for a while, then think about giving them a chance.
