Dear Community,
Many of you may have noticed over the last month that I have been noticeably absent from the ALUK servers. Firstly, I'd like to apologise for leaving everyone in the dark about where I have been. A little post could have gone a long way, so do pardon my leaving you in the lurch like that.
As for my reasons, it's quite simple. The sad fact is that I totally burnt out. Over the last couple of months, I believe I have given my all to the position I was elected to. This is something I'm proud of, but also it is part of my downfall. I love that people feel they can come to me with their problems, their questions, or if they just need someone to vent to when they've had a bad time. But I just can't keep up with the volume of people I dealt with, plus what is expected of me as Community Representative.
I took my time away from the community to think about what I would like to do going forward. Should I leave the community, step down from my position, press on with the role, or pass it on to someone else. I decided to give it another shot. My time off re-energised me, and I believe I'm good to push forward.
After discussing it with friends, I came upon a harsh truth; I cannot keep working the way I was before. If someone came to me, I couldnt help but help, regardless of having a support team in place for just that. So, in order to keep my sanity, and keep supporting the community, I've got to change my approach.
From now on, I'll be using a lot more of the blasted DND tags (it's not something I like to use, but for now a necessary evil). My original role was to Represent you guys, something I have neglected in favour of helping people. Since then, an amazing and very reliable Mentor team has been set up, and from this point, I would like to request they be the first port of call for the things I'd previously help you with. They are usually more capable than myself with most 'help' queries, and I have full faith that they can serve your needs well.
Of course I will still be available to deal with the broader issues we may have within the community, and you can still contact me through many channels for these things. My inbox is never that full, and you are always free to contact me via forum PM, and Mentors will always be happy to grab me if you can't message me due to tags. I'm not trying to block myself out, I just need more space to be able to function properly in my role.
I hope everyone can appreciate why I need to make these changes, and I'm sure that it will only mean I can achieve more for the wider community. Hey, I might even end up with enough spare time to come and play with you guys again.
Much love,
DainMK
