Hot plate CPU...

So, I became a bit alarmed yesterday when I launched Reign of kings and my CPU hit above boiling point. No really, It hit 104 degrees celsius and so I hit my power button straight away.

I gave the fan and heatsink a good dusting down and it still sits idle at 60 - 70 while everything else is at 20 - 30. It could be a faulty temp. gage but it does physically feel pretty damn hot over the CPU area. I have eliminated the dust problem, and yes the fan is definitely working however it is an AMD stock which are known for being shit, but not this shit!

My Specs :

Windows 8.1 (64 bit)

AMD A8 6600k (3.9 ghz 4 cores) stock speed

AMD r7 260x (overclocked)

6gb ddr3 RAM (not sure what speed)

Biostar motherboard (CPU FM2)

1tb hard drive (Not sure what speed)

Imma take it to a shop and replace the CPU thermal paste but until then anyone got any ideas?

Your stock temps seem to high anyway. Firstly check on the bios the temps as maybe theres a problem with your operating system if the temps are the same on bios i would then go on to looking at how much you can spend on cooling. I would recommend replacing your thermal paste anyway, paste is cheap so not a problem. If you have a little more money buy a aftermarket cooler. If a low budget go for a Hyper 212 evo but if you have a little more money then go for a more expensive one.

Thankyou! I will get some paste on it, if that doesn't work I will invest in a fan

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-120mm/dp/B0068OI7T8- Works amazing for me mate.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arctic-Silver-Thermal-Compound-3-5g-x/dp/B000OGX5AM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1430660983&sr=8-1&keywords=arctic+compound- This is a must if you take off your current heatsink and havnt reapplied any you should go ahead and spread this on.

Goodluck mate reply back on how it goes when your done
This is the new paste by arctic: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ARCTIC-OR-MX2-AC-01-MX-2-Thermal-Paste/dp/B000WU2LXC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1430681798&sr=8-1&keywords=mx5+paste

It seems to have better reviews to.

You could always play with your case left open for now while you have these issues, you could also invest in an aftermarket cooler you there's a good range of coolers out there both air and closed loop water coolers you can get for under £40

Ordering some of that Sticky stuff, gonna take off my old sticky stuff with 99% alcohol and hope I don't break it, if that doesn't work I'm gonna turn my PC into an industrial grade Fan!

Take it to a shop to change the thermal paste!? Why not do it yourself and upgrade the cooler whilst your at it?

How much will they charge for for putting a drop of paste on your cpu? £50 lol??

Doubt the paste is the probkem anyway, if ypu say the cooler felt really hot then the current paste is obviously doing its job of transferring heat from the cpu to the cooler....
