Hopehouse children hospices is something very close to my heart. They have been able to help my family and I since day one. For those of you who actually know me (TI, Shapeshifters) will know this about me.

My sister was born in 2001, and was originally diagnosed with something called leukodystrophy.

Luekodystrophy refers to a group of disorders characterized by dysfunction of[ 1] the white matter of the brain.[ 1] The the white matter of the brain The eukodystrophies are caused by mperfect growth or development of the myelin sheath, the fatty covering that acts as an insulator around nerve fibers. Myelin, from which the white matter of the brain takes its colour, is a complex substance made up of at least ten different chemicals. Each of the eukodystrophies is the result of a defect n the gene that controls the production or metabolism of one (and only one) of the component molecules of myelin.
However as of around 8 years ago they don't actually know what she has.

I feel that I cannot go into enough detail about my sister, as there is just too much good and bad to talk about. However, the hospice on the other hand, are a fantastic help. My Dad is a full time manager and my Mum is a part time nurse, and they are always up all hours of the day, rarely getting time for themselves. My sister goes to bed any time between 7 - 10:00. Wakes up between 23:00 and 5:00. Lacks melatonin. My parents have a nightmare with her. Shes 14 now and can't wash her self or get her self dressed, or even use the toilet properly, or eat properly for that matter.

This is where hopehouse comes in. They offer times where you can head down there for a while and just have a break. They have specialist staff there ready for pretty much any situation, and are fantastic with both the children and families.

I know this isn't a massive charity, but these guys are truly brilliant.
