Flavor - RP questions

Hi all, my name is Jordan and I'm interested in creating a new character on this server, once my exams have ended, so I thought I'd come earlier to check the community and learn how basic things work around here, since Ive never been to an altis life server (or Arma 3 altogether).

So, I have a couple of questions:

First of all, whats with the names of the cities? Kavala, Pyrgos etc are names of real Greek cities. This seemed funny imo.

Secondly, Ill be looking into getting to the police force and although asking for possible promotions is really premature I'd like to know if there is something like an IA (Internal Affairs) division in the police force, or something like this. I realise that not abiding the rules results in a ban from the server, but cant there be a thing like dirty cops?

Thanks and I'll come up with more questions in the future.

1. They were named by Bohemia when they made the map as far as I'm aware, kind of just stuck really. Lots of the Arma 2 map chernarus is based on parts of the Czech Republic so they take real life inspiration. The island of Altis also exists in real life but I forget the name...

2. When you join the cops you begin at the rank of CSO. You are an unarmed officer who basically just watches what happens and get a feel for everything.  You then become a PSCO who is armed with no-lethal rounds. After this you do a test called the PA which if you pass makes you a Police Constable. At that point you choose a Constabulary out of 3 (Kavala, Athira, Pyrgos) who will be your command structure. I suggest you grab some patrols with higher ups in each constab while you are PCSO so that you can decide who you like.

Each week, your constabulary command will have a promotion meeting where they will discuss people who are eligible for promotions (there is a time between each rank) and if they are eligible they will look at notes that members of the constabulary have written about you. If they decide you are ready you will receive a promotion in the weekly police meeting on Saturday evening.

In terms of being a "dirty cop" or whatever, there is a server rule which states you must abide by the law once you join the cops and you would face removal if caught (bare in mind that this isn't an RP catch, if anyone sees you they will simply metagame you and you will be removed for breaking the law.) It wasn't previously like this but if you disagree feel free to argue it because of lot of discussion went into this decision. Breaking the law in self defence will not cause you any issues but no rebel activity!

(7.1.1) Police members are unable to do any illegal activity (unless on a Police holiday)

Important point is that although it is a server rule you will not be banned, only actioned on internally in the police.

Hope that clears it up :)

Hello buddy! If you would like to become a Police Officer, fill in this application: https://www.roleplay.co.uk/forms/5-/

Once you get to the rank of PC, you can pick a Specialist Unit to join if you so wish to. Those units are NCA (National Crime Agency) , NPAS (National Police Air Service) where you can fly MH-9's, Hellcats and the hummingbird. Eyes in the sky for ground units and Marine Unit. This unit alows you to be a police officer at sea. Any questions you can let me or some other police officers and they / me will be happy to help!!!!!! @Ultra

Other jobs are NHS And BA.

@Fergussyeah I read the application and all that already. Isnt there some kind of politics in the Police force? Like what you'd see in actual forces, elections for the commander etc. Also, are there lawyers?

@CST TomTheDogedidnt see your answer there, so Im gonna have to post again in order to answer. First of all, thanks for all the info. I am not sure I agree with metagaming in order to "rat" a dirty cop, although I think this solution may have come up after extreme events, of which Im not aware.

My idea would be to be able to have corruption in the police system, but with a soft cap, such as selling weapons, due to the fact I am reading the cop weps hit really hard and that would break the balance of the server. Still, being bribed as a cop to look the other way on a robbery, selling drugs, destroying evidence, etc, shouldnt get you banned by others using metagaming, instead, it would be better to implement a form of RP (capture pictures, call the cops on him ingame while the whole gig is up etc) if you are a civilian or just want to see through this problem. This is why I asked about an IA squad, since I didnt know you are able to metagame if a cop breaks the rules.

@UltraTo be honest I completely agree with you, back in the days of @Maratekas commander of the police I'm told that dirty cops had to be caught in roleplay which I really like the idea of but I think the general opinion is that cop activity wouldn't be enough if they could do rebel activity. Maybe I'm completely wrong and there is another reason because in my experience, you could go on as Civilian and just roleplay as a different person and I don't really see the problem with this, but they don't want people to for whatever reason. I've also heard that "back in the day" cops would raid their own houses to put weapons in there for police holiday so there have certainly been "dirty cops" in the past, I just wouldn't recommend risking your cop career over it.

Would @ be able to elaborate on the reason for rule?  (7.1.1)

@CST TomTheDogeyeah, what I'd like to RP is actually catching dirty cops, the politics and the interrogations behind all of this. For example, my favorite Detective Show is Wired, which has minimal shooting and action compared to the power struggle between the departments and within the force. ^_^
