Expected* Frames

I know arma is a heavy cpu game and can also expect lower frames in multilayer but atm im running a amd rig which is pretty bad for arma, im planning on upgrading over the next few month to Intel specs below will be what i'll be using for a bit what are the expected frames? 

I7 4970K
270x 4GB
12 GB Ram 1600mhz

The only real change will be a mother board and a CPU Currently using a fx-6300 OC'd 4700mhz Will i see a big difference using the i7 and slightly overclocking it

so would 21-25fps for fx-6300 and 270x 4gb be about the best i can get atm?

I've the same CPU, though 16gb of ram and a 980Ti. Arma is more cpu than gpu, and i get pretty much 60gps, with it dropping a bit if there's a tonne of stuff going on.

Upgrade your memory to 16GB in either 2x8GB or 4x4GB chips. 12 Gig is a weird number and you'll lose a slight bit of performance as it wont be running in Dual Channel, so Dimms cant be accessed in parallel

I was just making another post and for the post i was looking at my specs and i know i have 1600mhz 12gb but speccy shows this 
12.0GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)
Any idea why its showing 798MHz?? 

Plus its also meant to be dual channel 0_o

DDR3 like all DDR memory runs at Double Data Rate. It's roughly running at 800MHz, double that rate - 1600MHz!

It's not running in dual channel because you likely have a mix of something like an 8gb chip and a 4gb chip. All the dimms must be the same speed etc. to run in dual channel. I.e. 2x 8GB or 4x4GB (for 16gb total)

Wow thanks this makes total sense :) guess need to pick up another 8gb or just get 16gb HyperX

Ideally yeah you'll want the same of whatever 8gb you have now, or just buy a 16GB DDR3 kit. With the release of DDR4, it shouldnt be very expensive, maybe 40 or quid.

how much of a boost in ARMA 3 will DDR4 Ram give me if i was to get 8GB ( 4x2 ) or would 16 of DDR3 be better

A very little boost, you'll also need a new Intel Skylake CPU and a Compatible motherboard. The 4790k is an extemely powerful processor, even if it is a generation or so old. But you wont see much of a performance increase by going to a 6700k. The only thing you might get is a longer life-span of the machine, but the 4790k is a bit cheaper.

Yea i took a look at the 6700k but its running a 1151 chip and motherboard i want is a 1150 so gave it a miss, think i'll just get the 16GB seems better value for money going that way, will there be a major increase for the i7 from a fx6300

You should see a good boost. If you wanted to save a bit more cash - you could go for the i5-4690k. It's obviously not as strong as the I7, but if you're not doing a lot of multi-threaded applications (arma isnt one of them) you will find you dont use most of the i7-4790k. However, it is rather nice to say you have an i7 and you're not an i5 scrub, or an amd hobo ;)

One thing that will get you a good boost is an SSD. If you get yourself a good SSD and 16gb of ram, have arma installed on the SSD and you'll get much faster loading times and @lionelcan tell you about disabling your pagefile. He's a mad evangelist for disabling the pagefile.

Should you ask: your pagefile stores 'pages' of your 16gb of memory on disk when they're not used. it's a source of bottleneck and in SSDs it reduces the lifespan of the drive due to the high read/writes. On Mechanical disks it used to lead to a condition called 'disk thrashing'. When you have 16GB of memory, you have no need for a pagefile.

We are one. A collective.

12Gb though..Single Data Rate is very 90s. Very 20th century. Very Last Millennium. 8GB of DDR3 memory will cost very little.
