So im looking to upgrade my I5 to an I7 buy im not sure if it is worth doing or not. Im not the best with computers so im not sure if there is a massive difference that makes the purchase worthwhile or not.

Does anyone have a good knowledge with CPU's.

Secound thing is , is it even worth getting the I7 4790 or should i save up to buy a skylake build as im planning on getting the 1080 as well.

If you have a good knowldge in PC's , your help which be appreciated ?

Alright, first thing's first... what exactly is your current CPU?

Also, if you were to go with a 4790, you'll likely want the 4790k, since the k edition has an unlocked multiplier, meaning it can easily be overclocked, giving you better performance for the same price.

As for getting a skylake cpu... of course the more money you have the better performance you're going to be able to get, but if you don't want to spend a lot, a 4790k will do just fine for any game currently released (even arma most of the time xD).

Again, deciding if it's worth upgrading is a personal thing, if you're happy with your current performance, there's no need to upgrade at all... but the performance increase all depends on what you currently have.

Exactly what Marc said, go for a k series CPU. the different between the I5 and the I7 isn't much but you cna always check on INTEL ARK for the exact spec, as some I5s wont have hyper threading etc.

If you go Skylake, be aware you're also really going to need DDR4 memory, rather than DDR3 used by the 47xx series.

Having both a skylake and an 4790, I can tell you the difference is minimal. Also, so far the DDR4s run at lower speeds than the fastest DDR3s (HyperX) and the pricing is fair, but you should take that into consideration only if you are doing some cpu heavyduty work.
