Chat... Chat... Silence

I extremely dislike this, my personal opinion is too hotmic everything within RP. I've done this as a police officer and it honestly has saved me countless times.

I know @Banana Duck and @Vladic Kaboth HATE people that hush up in game then talk on TS.

I understand you don't want to break character. That's fine, but if all you are saying is, "I think we should take him to Athira station" Than that is not hard to hotmic in game, and if his friends here him? So what, more RP, RP stopping a police car, possible negotiations and what ever happens next. Hotmic should be included, and I'm pushing for all police officers to do it, at least in times of calm, I don't expect officers in a fire-fight to hotmic in game. And a lot of other officers in my command agree with me on this point.

Personally I'd like to see it as a server rule, as we do use TS for RP as a radio, and thus should come under Fail RP is they use said radio for RP purposes.

Too many people, respected people abuse this fact, police/rebel/UNMC etc. It affects the RP, in negative ways. I.E I was on my own, two men in hatchbacks sports pulled him, odd looking, thinking they are going to take me hostage. I hotmiced calling units to help, giving a description of the men, they heard this and left.

I also have to personally agree with Khan, I see this as Fail RP, not reportable/bannable put it is effecting and failing the RP, what people say over TS could affect the RP in-game and thus stops that RP from happening. It's like me as a cop, running up, placing handcuffs on someone then running him back to the police station.

Anyway, personally, everyone should do this, if not. Well...
This guy gets it!

You got the exact same mindset as me only difference isyou know how to word it.

I agree it's disgusting when you're talking with people and out of nowhere all communication stops, because they just had to speak on the radio, and all thoose excuses we get now a days, a suggestion was made by using the task force radio, which i personally would to see implemented, the reason for this is that it's actually convincing, realistic, and working, you can hear people's radio go off, and you can hear them when they speak into it, aswell on longer distances depending on what the radio is set to, it makes it so much more realistic, and well yea sometimes it fucks you over and give away your position if you are close to an enemy, but then you got the option to shut it off.

TL:DR solution will be task force radio.

People always want to come out on the winning side, that the problem, they'll use what ever they can to get there.

It's playing within the rules to be fair. It should be classed as fail RP unless said group has a telecnic trait

we all know what's going on...

"Party A has 3 men, 2 armed"

"hobo 1 has a gun"

"party A all stand in front and around him"

Party A "He has a gun in his bag! I saw it! let's get it!"

Silicene for 30 seconds while hobo wonders whats going on or suspects a robbery or thinks they are done talking and walks off and gets shot, a series of problems happen from this.

Underlying powergaming and fail RP. while we know it's not against the rules, it's generally poor form.

I see this a great deal in editing footage from everyone. seriously people step it up, don't make me make a shame 2.0 teamspeak edition!

The issue is that it is impossible to regulate without mods, which we aren't going to use on the regular servers.

Personally, if I'm talking over the "radio" then I'll also talk in game. This has saved my hide more times than I care to admit. It also adds to the whole RP experience for others, especially when they've been arrested.

There are times when I don't talk in game, and only in TS, but these are either when it's just me and my partner alone (because TS communication is much clearer), or if something is being discussed that would be classed as OOC. I try to avoid the latter as much as possible, and if it can't be avoided then I'll try and grab another officer to keep talking, especially when we're dealing with a suspect.

Like I said at the start: it is one thing saying this, but another actually making it a regulated rule. It would only really be whitelisted factions that could be monitored, allowing John Smith, hobo extrodinaire, and his gang to flout the rules.

TL;DR
I encourage this, but how could it be regulated?

For me personally, when I'm dealing with a civilian, and I need to unavoidably speak OOC on TS. I just ask them politely to give me a second and tell them I have priority radio comms in my earpiece that I have to listen to. It at least gives an RP reason for any silences.  If it's IC, then I'll hot mic it.  I generally try to keep TS chat to a minimum during interactions though.

I honestly do not see how an experienced cop could think in anyway that not hotmicing is acceptable, you cannot say one thing to someone and at the same time whisper something without them hearing you into your radio without them noticing, frankly it IS power gaming. If you physically whisper is then fair play but if I ever talk to someone in game and radio at the same time I will just hold down both push to talks I don't see why you wouldn't.

Its already against the rules, it's called shit roleplay.

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but here's my take anyway:

Telling the detainee that you're following the highway and then your fellow cops in TS that you're actually going to go on the backroads in my honest opinion is absolutely power-gaming and Fail-RP.
Sorry @Kaden& @Samatlewissbut I completely agree with Khan. It's unrealistic to presume that everybody on the server is going to hotmic every piece of essential information, and I do understand that, but the scenario that Khan has described above is, in my view, powergaming. A lot of the time it's a very minor thing and, understandably, it doesn't cross many people's minds to hotmic what they are saying over the radio, but even the small things- such as hotmicing radioing permission to scrap a vehicle- can make a huge difference to the quality of RP, and although I doubt it's something that would ever be forced, I would certainly encourage people to do is a much as they can. Even more so with the big things- such as radioing when taking fire, to name one example- I think should be hotmiced in game.

I hotmic everything in game, unfortunately rebels hear something they don't wanna hear and i'm dead within 3 seconds :(

It's simple, get into a close range RP situation...mute.

play the game not the player.

It's down to players to produce this higher standard,

understandably people will use Ts for those moments in a bush trying to fire 400m, but using it close range around a hobo saying "he's probably come from the weed field/he has a mx in his bag" is just dirty power gaming.

putting yourself on the disadvantage is something people need to learn, it creates more memorable moments and unique situations.

This would result In this

Hobo

"hello, what do you guys want? I  don't have anything!"

Large gang

"hey you, stop there! where did you come from? the direction you were coming from suggests you came from the weed field! right hands up! we want that truck! drop your bag and any guns you might have! my friend saw you holster a pistol!

Hobo

"No please! I can never make money! I just need a little bit! everytime I try to I get shot!"

Large gang

"Sorry mate, you've got 5 seconds....

ect

rather than...

Large gang

Hobo

"hello, what do you guys want? I  don't have anything!"

"...................................................................."

"...................................................................."

"...................................................................."

" right hands up! give us the keys to the truck........"

Hobo

"No please! I can never make money! I just need a little bit! everytime I try to I get shot!"

"...................................................................."

"...................................................................."

Large gang

"Sorry mate, you've got 5 seconds....

I figured police were just tabbed out filling in their application for Invictia.... ?

The reason I'm proposing an idea to police academy and not rebels/NHS/UNMC is simply as this mostly happen with lower ranks in the police force.(mostly as I normally don't get to talk to alot of rebels as it usually ends up with him or me dead)
Keep in mind, CSO's and PCSO's are not only learning their IC role, but also a load of OOC police rules & mechanics that come with the job. No matter how often they read the hand book they still encounter situations were they're not sure about something OOC and need to check with their mentor. In most cases, it's not an IC question that can be asked in direct chat.

Common examples I've seen is when game mechanics fail. E.G. clicking the remove weapon button doesn't actually remove the weapon. A new P/CSO will usually encounter this at some point and ask on TS what they should do. Sure they could RP that the weapon is stuck in the satchel, but this kind of RP is something that's learned with experience.  I think folks should bare this in mind and not judge them too harshly, especially at the P/CSO level.

I asked a lot of OOC questions as a P/CSO, and I can be honest when I say, the P/CSO's I roll with now also ask a lot of OOC questions. It's how we learn the job and the mechanics.

The only way I can see this being overcome is if the academy literally tested a CSO on every possible situation multiple times before letting them loose on the streets. Even then I don't think they will be able to include the unforeseen and I suspect it would be a pretty hefty drain on time and resources.

My way of dealing with it was to simply ask for the civilian to give me a second as I was listening to high priority radio comms. It's not fantastic RP, but at least it gave a valid RP reason for any silence on my part.

Just started as a CSO yesterday and can confirm this.  As a rebel it is really easy for us to run about focused on the RP but I am learning really fast that dealing with the all the new mechanics, multiple TS whispers, bugs and glitches and all the rules and policies is a massive increase in basic workload in terms of delivering in game activity.  All that does sometimes put a strain on the RP, but I do try and cover it in RP terms as learning the job and sorry for the delay I appreciate your patience sir etc.

But good lord what have I let myself in for :S

Edit:  Hopefully in a week or two the RP will float gracefully along like a swan with it's legs paddling like mad beneath the water while I stab the shit out of F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 F6 Windows key, shift G shift R Y menu wtf where am I wtf is going on who said what when where why..... LET ME OUT THE CAR I WANT TO CRY

Welcome to the PD Gibbins :D

LOL yep, most people don't realise that whilst they're standing there with nothing but RP in their mind, there's a *beep* load going on behind the scenes with the P/CSO. Take a simple crime. He's frantically flicking through the list of crimes in the handbook searching for the relative one so he can confirm which crime/s have been committed and what fine / punishment is required. Whilst he's doing that, he's also trying to listen to your claims of innocence 🤓 and all the rubbernecking hobos who've by now started to swarm the scene creating as much drama & noise as they can! His radio is full of chatter, and he's desperately trying to keep the conversation flowing all at the same time.  Whilst juggling all these balls, he's also looking out for potential danger which trust me, lies around every corner!

Throw into this the pressure of making a mistake, cos lets face it, if he does, someone will jump on that mistake and try to use it against him either IC or OOC!

Just another routine patrol 😂
