Changes needed to overhaul the working sector

Brief Summary:

As things stand, the ‘meta’ for making money right now is trucking. No other job can compete with the amount of money you make trucking.  Balance needs to happen so we can have people working in every sector.

Detailed Suggestion:

There are jobs in the city that underpay by a lot.

(I will not include orange/apple farming as these are jobs that get you started on the server.)

Let’s have a look at a taxi driver for example. I join the server everyday from 4pm-1am. Just from one session alone 4pm-8pm we have received a total of three calls. One of them was me and the other two were I quote “where can I get weed” and “help I am locked in pd station”. There is always 185 people on the server and for only 2-3 people to call a taxi is ridiculous.

Another job that needs improving is mining. Again, comparing mining to trucking, you will never ever get as much money from mining as you would from trucking. Getting past the first level is a struggle on its own. If you were to truck, you will be 300-400k up by the time you levelled up your mining. Even when mining is levelled, the amount of money you make is nowhere near comparable to trucking.

Mechanics are basically nonexistent (I mean they’re out of jobs) on the server. Most of the calls I receive as a taxi driver is “Stuck on highway, need a repair kit (or fuel).”. I have never signed up for that job so I can’t say for sure how busy that sector is but if I was to make an educated guess comparing it to taxi driving, I highly doubt that it is.

Fixing the issues:

These are just suggestions, if people have any other ideas that would work better please comment below and I will update the post.

Taxi Driving and Mechanics:

A system could be added with daily objectives to for eg: Call a taxi (or mechanics) every 24 hours (IRL time) to come help you out. These daily objectives introduce reward system so it’s worthwhile for players doing them.

Mining:

There are three ways, I’ve came up with to fix mining, it’s up to the devs to pick the best one or come up with a better solution.

1.)    Increase the speed of mining and lower the amount of weight it takes up in your inventory.

2.)    Increase the base sell prices to NPC’s that will make the job worthwhile.

3.)    Collect a job from the whiteboard “like at the trucking depot” and mine x of certain material. Once the goal is reached the extra money will be payed out.

The Pros:

·         Will reduce the mayhem that currently happens at the trucking depot.

·         Provide more fun ways for people to make money.

·         It will bring back the need for other services and let people choose from a wider variety of jobs.

·         More enjoyable RP for taxi drivers, mechanics and people hopping in for the ride.

The Cons:

·         None.

Does this suggestion change balance on the server?

Yes, however I think it will change the balance in a positive way. Re-working the current jobs can provide more fun ways to RP and change things up every once in a while, instead of doing brainless trucking.

Been trying to put some words together to post something similar to this myself. As a pretty much "Full Time Impound Employee" I can say specially today there has been a good amount of people trying the job and from what I've heard they seem to enjoy it. The pay is consistent and honestly I'd say it's on par if not better than trucking. Pretty much everything you have said here does hit the nail on the head. If you don't mind me adding my own views and ideas on this subject please read on 🙂

Personally I do think a rework of jobs should be considered so there are pros and cons for each job, but to where people can still chose a job to fit their characters story. Obviously for anything suggested in this post it is understood that this would not be a quick nor easy thing to fix/rework and will take the dev team a long time to finish. (No bad meaning to this at all, it's a fucking big task. Especially with everything else that's being worked on)

Carrying on from what I said above. I do think most of the jobs could be pushed even further with some unique systems for example; job calls as a mechanic, are basic information shown as a dispatch to all on duty. A fair system, so incoming calls are assigned to specific workers, instead of 3 people showing up as once would make the job even smoother for workers. This would therefore also balance earnings, so not 1 person can take all the calls if there are 4/5 people signed on. This could then be taken a step further with allowing players to have some higher responsibility to actually run the impound business including the tow driver employees making sure they know what they are doing. Employees at a certain mechanic level could then also have the ability to do the recovery paperwork for players vehicles to get them out of the impound and take a %cut of the fee paid.

I could spend all day trying to write up some ideas that I think would work really well with all the current jobs to; balance earning, provide more RP to the job and make the jobs more interesting to do so it doesn't seem to be a "Grind". I'd love any feedback on this and maybe to go into further details above the other jobs available too!

I dont think legal jobs should pay alot there is no risk in doing them and as far as im aware you got quite a bit of money from them. Mining is done for different things not just money. I agree that jobs should be balanced out but i dont think money should be increased. If you base this off real life how many truck drivers or taxi drivers that make millions and buy all these fancy cars that people do. In  my opinion it makes no sense. Im not saying they should be nerfed into the ground im just saying that some shouldnt be as good as they are. Illegal vs legal balance needs looking

I definitely see where you're coming from. Trucking jobs already pay too much for the runs compared to others, however I feel like if the devs were to nerf the money you make from trucking there would be havoc in the community. Personally I think they should make all legal jobs equal so people can enjoy other aspects of the RP without thinking of having to go on and grind trucking all day. I don't know what or how many illegal jobs there are but risk for reward should definitely be a factor here.

I'm rather new to this server, but here is my experience so far.

Taxi driving is ok when you pick up "locals". I've had some RP calls, but one of the reasons nobody really uses it, people can steal cars/bikes pretty easily. Obviously to start as a Taxi Driver you need to do another Job First as it's gated by having to buy the Taxi Cab, should be an option to rent a taxi like the other jobs. If you don't bring it back, or not in full working condition you should lose the money. I've seen many times when the police will talk to someone in a blatantly stolen local car, yet nothing happens. I would assume ANPR comes up and says if the car is owned by a player or not, so I find it odd nothing is done. Why pay for a taxi if there is no punishment for a free spot of car jacking.

Trucking at least works, I've seen people moan that a long trip can give low money, but it has to be random each time, otherwise people would cancel the cheaper jobs to get the 20k+ jobs. I would probably lower the highest amount, not even the £5k purchase of the vehicle is a deterrent for poor driving, as people when they finish a shift just dump their truck and someone else can use it, people rarely lock the truck when finished, so if you got the money back if the vehicle was not damaged, this would help to a degree.

Mechanics, I feel sorry for, the fact you can buy a repair kit for very cheap makes their RP part near on impossible, I have called for a mechanic and done RP, but to make their job more viable and to make RP. Repair Kits should be changed to only repair your car if it's not fully damaged and more expensive, also only Mechanics can fix a fully dead car, thus they have a roll, also I would give mechanics access to upgrade cars, rather than the self service. This will encourage more RP. I haven't been a mechanic, but if they could pick up any "dead car" and drop it off at a yard to be crushed for money that would be good, it would help to clear up the roads of all the abounded cars.

Mining, I'm not really sure how/what happens when you progress and what benefits it has, I've seen a few gang people do it, but seem to be unwilling to give any information! I assume this is linked to gang activity in some way, just by the amount of Know Gang members are doing it.

Fruit Collection, not a clue why this is even a thing, not seen any "Business Owner" engage in this.

Blood Delivery is not working at the moment, so can't comment.

I have no idea about the Lumber/Oil, they also seem to not work or linked to any further work.

Delivery Driving, seems fair, short journeys mostly, low paid, which is to be expected, as you can do it with other jobs, you can earn some extra cash if your in that area of town.

To go fully off topic, which I'll probably need to post elsewhere, to find out if this server is worth my investment. (the last server I played on was for nearly 6 months, the owner just up and quit and wouldn't pass on the access to keep the server running).

Would be nice to know what the owners direction for the server is, as the RP is very limited so far, yet when you join it says it's a Serious RP Community, I've yet to see that. After a certain hour it turns into the wild west, yet to see any punishment for this, just because it's late hours, it's put me off wanting to play. Even during the Day people are exploiting the taxi message service as highlighted above, don't even get me started on Twitter, illegal activity posted all over it. Do the Police not act on this?

People drive like idiots, there is no real punishment, hardly ever see Police dealing with Speeders / Red Lights etc, also to tag on the amount of people who crash and just drive off is a joke, I see little to no punishment. The RP and blatant rule breaking is beyond a joke.

I feel the server has a lot of good qualities, certain tweaks here and there with the scripts, but the key thing has to be pushing for more good quality RP, if that's turning on full white listing and getting people to start applying, and then removing the current people who are breaking rules, this should be done. Quality of Quantity.

I have no idea about the Lumber/Oil, they also seem to not work or linked to any further work.
Oil is made into plastic and can be made into Zipties

Lumber is made into wood and it is used to make pistols

I have no idea about the Lumber/Oil, they also seem to not work or linked to any further work.
they must be sold to someone who knows how to use them

 that's a player economy

Hopefully with the sinclair dragons den meeting which happend recently some more businesses should be comming to the city.

My proposal to overall the fishing industry should also offer another avenue of legal money making while also giving people a wider variety of choice for work.

But overall I agree trucking jobs are breaking the economy atm and it needs to be addressed for balance

Changes have been made as of recent updates and even more work in future updates, so please keep a eye on the changelog 🙂
