A complaint lodged by some early starters on Tanoa, first night, was that they'd (rather stupidly, imho) withdrawn every red cent of their £5000 starting money, and went bombing off on a quadbike and died, losing their entire life-savings in the process (and usually making some other casual passing hobo extremely happy and doubly rich only a few moments later).

We feel sorry for these fucktards. Really we do. We had no idea that some people would shit the gig quite so quickly, and ultimately ruin all chance of reasonably or realistically participating in the Tanoan economic process. It is our fault. We forgot to bubblewrap the island, and we didn't give them any sort of PPI scheme to safeguard their cash or stop them risking their family's whole bank on the wicked roads of this jungle paradise. We feel sad for them, and a tiny bit ashamed.

But we want them to come back, and try their luck again. Life has been made considerably easier for new hobos, and although we still expect them to work, there is nothing like the level of slavery that first existed in this glorious island. The government of Tanoa is embarking on a number of new schemes to boost immigration, and assist those who tried and failed, or tried and died, to make a start in Tanoa once before.

Now, there are two ways we can give these poor, broken, penniless individuals another chance at the golden life. One is rather cold, remote and devoid of opportunity for fun, banter, RP and shizzles; the other has all the makings of a whole new schema of RP, and a madcap level of insanity that would put Altis mayoral voting comment-booths to shame. Neither (luckily for me) would necessarily involve much coding - unless one took off as a really neat thing to expand upon, but I'll leave that for another day...

SO....

Should we simply give players who want a restart on Tanoa, a jolly good wipe and/or a boost of their funds back to their original starting bank of £5000 (and do this as many times as they need in order to stop falling flat on their poor, deluded arses...

OR...

Should we create an 'emergent gameplay' scenario in which members of the Tanoan townspeople, high-ranking cops, and/or the Mayor of Georgetown all sit down in a room (for example, the Town Hall, or even the waiting room at the airport), and INTERVIEW these poor saps, in order to hear their tales of woe, their stories of death and destruction, destitution and pain, and then decide - jury style, or by edict from the highest-ranking person present (which ever makes for more arguing and fighting the better, imho) - whether or not to give said poor sap applicant his money back. Or perhaps more. Or less. And perhaps with strings attached - like 'you must clean the airport windows for 15 minutes before we pay you', or 'Roadsweeping for you, buddy, till sunset', or, 'the mayor needs a hand-job and there are no prozzies on the island; get to it'. You know the sort of thing. We are limited here only by our imagination, RP skill, and ability to coordinate such gatherings either by side-chat, forum posts, or whatever... All it will need is one (forewarned) admin to be present for the final awarding of whatever cash figure is decided.

OR, OR...

Do we do a combination of both, to allow room for the ickle pwetty people who might be too scared to roleplay such an activity in order to beg... I mean, apply respectfully to the State and await due process, of course - for the their money back after losing the lot like the true gipper that they evidently were.

What do you think?

PS I would've added a poll, but this blood forum engine hates me. Perhaps someone smarter than me can add it? (Thank you Wasted... poll below:)

I am happy to do my part and continue to tour around new hobos to teach them how to live on the island, as we spoke about on TS. I have done for two so far and I think they both still play now on a regular basis.

I will also be happy to part with some of my personal funds to new hobos that do these small jobs at the airport as they arrive to get them started.

I lost all my money :(

Whilst the last third and fourth posts after mine above are fine ones, and I am overjoyed to see them, they do not address the original proposal.

Firstly, we would not wish any individual to feel responsible for an influx of returning super-poor hobos - nor do we think it likely that the hobos would know where to connect with these individuals in order to get help... Though it is a lovely thought, and I am sure it will continue (long may it continue). We also need some kind of 'state sponsored' rescue scheme, which can be announced, touted, signposted, etc, and which is there 24/7 (or whenever an admin is on).

Likewise, the PLF's graciousness and generosity is duly noted, though we are sure there may be strings attached from time to time (like, of course ;) who wouldn't). Whilst the PLF is very prominent on the island, and I am sure has the funds to undertake such reimbursement without any great suffering, the same question of 'state support' is really what I'm getting at here.

I love the way people are immediately thinking of this from an RP angle. This is what I had hoped. But the reality is there may be quite an amount of floodgates opening, and broke hobos returning (if we do this right). Hopefully there will also be a lot of rich bastards and cops there to watch the proceedings with merriment and heckling too.

But really, I need to know whether the 'Court of Welfare' idea has legs on its own (Admins will arse-spawn the money to gift to the hobos, if successful). My long-term wonder is that it MIGHT, just might, end up in some kind of actual COURT system to administer justice on the island. Not necessarily in every case, but in some (i.e when there are enough people around to give a shit or be bothered to take part, and depending on the defendant, obviously). Just a thought.

So the question - in TLDR form once again is:

Do we offer civs a cash replacement via a database splurge, either on-demand or en-masse, makes no odds to me

OR

Do we make them RP their little arses off, to get their wedge back?

Have you played since? People in game are willing to help but no one is giving Tanoa a decent chance.
I have but no one helped me, and when i spent my last bit of cash renting a ofroad from PLF i died many times from bushes.

Could this be because you have difficulty comprehending basic instructions, perhaps? Or are you naturally a high risk-taker? :)

Let me put it another way.

Yes. We get that you lost all your money on the first day. We are all very, very sad for you, and wish that it had never happened.

Now... do you want your money back via the magical database fairy that just pretends that you are not a loss-making loser and tells nobody about your little 'accident' (well, nobody that you haven't already told by admitting it here, anyway)... ;)

OR

would you prefer to come to the Court of Welfare (location TBD, timings TBD, other reimbursement schemes may be available, TM) and beseech the citizens of Tanoa to hear your heart-wrenching tale, and take pity on you and give you a stack of Government cash (quantity TBD, currency TBD, strings attached or not, TBD).

That is kind of the point of this thread, really. Not to determine whether you lost all your shit. Now, please, have another go at answering before I lose all mine. Many thanks xx

I say they need to give it a little RP to get it back. No one should be rewarded without putting some form of effort in. Your idea of community work at the airport was great.

Yes we do need people to come back to Tanoa, but they can't expect it to be easy like Altis is. They need to RP a little at the airport for money.

Have Ian Longfoot (If possible) have a form of some questions relating to what they want to do on the island, after 5 of so questions answered, they are rewarded wish cash depending on those answers. Who knows :O

Give it another try and drove slower. You get used to the roads pretty quick. The RP is great on Tanoa, just needs a few more people to chip in.

I think I love you.

OK.. we may be on to something. Let's see if this one cooks, and we will work something out.

We absolutely HAVE to get these waifs and strays to come back to Tanoa and try again. We leave no soul behind. Everyone deserves a second chance, at Tanoa. We are an equal opportunities enslavement island. Second chance, third chance, hell, four hundred and fifty-sixth chance - we don't care. The Govt of Tanoa is rich enough to buy you all houses, burn them down claiming a cockroach infestation, build some more, and bulldozer them into the sea. Twice over, and then some. We have drug money coming out of our arses.... I mean, er, we have a very healthy Gross Domestic Product and a taxation system that is very reasonable, offering us a wealth of financial opportunities. Even if you are incredibly, ridiculously cack-handed with numbers and likely to leave your entire life-savings in a bag on the fucking motorway. We love roadside cleanup. We love giving the high life back to hobos. It's what makes us GREAT.

this please

Rp would be great so long as we have people there to do it, i'd load em  all up on a Bus, ship them out to the mines for 15 minutes of labor. then give em their dosh and let them make their own ways back.

:)
