I finally figured out why he has no lights in his room. They gave him a mini super computer and a spare generator to power just that. So what happened is he plugged his computer into the wall and blew the fuse making the lights turn off.

As we all know a webcam or any kind of camera is nothing without lightning so the quality is bad. 

So back to the first point they bought him a mini supercomputer and a generator. The generator only has enough juice to power the computer because Howard Stark does not live anymore to give us good generators.

RIP Howard and this thread because I just figured it out.
