Why is the server so strict?

My friend isn't bothered and doesn't have any real intention to get unbanned, but all he did was fly over a city under 100m (not even a greenzone), and at some other point do FailRP once and was permabanned, no warning. I'm just wondering, have the rules always been this way, and if so why are they so strict?

Strict rules keep the quality high. Let slide on rulebreaks and quality falls down a slippery slope.

Sure enough, but there should be some sort of warning system for minor rule breaks like FailRP or something as stupid as flying a little too low. RDM is a given but for accidentally mentioning 'server' instead of Island or accidentally metagaming? It seems too stupid.

Strict rules are necessary for a good roleplay server, without them you end up with servers where you get RDM'd on a daily basis and face non-existent roleplay. The staff team does warn people but in the end, it is up to the people themselves to educate themselves on the rules, if they want to play on this server. RPUK is definitely stricter on the rules than other servers, but these strict rules are what makes it one of the best if not the best roleplay server out there.

It's very hard to 'easily Metagame'. Most cases it's either doing it or not. 

Conclusion: As Smith said, strict rules keep a strict level of Roleplay. The rules aren't in a foreign language, they are pretty simple and if you don't understand them, you can ask someone.

Rules are there to keep the server from decending into chaos. 

If you don't like how many there are or you dont like that when you break them you get banned then nobody is forcing you to play. RPUK welcomes everyone and Ive seen literally hundreds of times admins just saying to people "Look, you're obviously new and thats fine. Just take a look over the rules and come back to us when you have" and either let the person leave the server or kick them. A ban is only placed when you brake these rules with no regard of them. And if you genuinely broke a rule by accident then include it in your unban appeal and the admins will take it into consideration. 

Just enjoy your stay here and roleplay dont ruleplay and you'll be fine as long as you dont brake the rules

As shown above, we do warn for minor more forgivable errors. 

Bans and warnings are issued at our own discretion, if it’s deemed by the staff member that the player in question has too much of a muddy history then that is taken in to account.
