Wheel Clamps/Stop Police impounded vehicles from getting stolen (so easily)

Apologies if a thread has already been made about this, I did have a look but couldn't find one.

I often find a common problem with the Mechanic Jobs, both from a Police perspective as well as a Mechanic perspective.

From my Mechanic's side:
This afternoon I logged on to do some mechanic jobs before storm for a little extra money, I spent my time driving to a police impound job, only for the car to not be there. I then removed this job and moved to the next, which also wasn't there! Ended up just doing local jobs, however I believe this is an extremely common issue.

From my Police character's side:
I impound cars as and when I can, to help keep the city clean and make a little extra cash, but often enough I will impound a vehicle, turn around and suddenly it's been nicked. I think this happens to more Police impounded vehicles than not. You then get an annoyed phone call from a Mechanic who has wasted their time and won't get paid, they then beg you for compensation but I shouldn't have to pay that out of my pocket! Police often do not have the resources (and frankly shouldn't have to) wait around for the Mechanic to turn up.

From a Criminal's side:
I don't think we should be making it impossible to steal impounded vehicles, however I believe it should be harder.

Suggestions for making it harder:
Police have no way of "re-locking" a car once it's been impounded, odds are if we have impounded it then it's an unlocked stolen/broken local car. I have a few ideas on how we could improve this.

1 - Wheel clamps (the most logical)
Wheel clamps! This could be a physical item added to the police armoury, but it could also just be an extra "animation" when impounding a car. This would essentially "lock" the vehicle by making it immovable, thus detering criminals from just getting in to drive to wherever they need to go.

2 - Relocking cars (debatably logical)
If the police had a way to relock the car, e.g a padlock & chain to put through the door handle or something then this would also deter people from just jumping in and driving off.

As mentioned in my criminal section, I don't think this should make it impossible to take the vehicle, just much harder (especially as if a vehicle has already been hotwired you can just jump in and drive off). I think adding an additional pick locking stage to one of the above options could fix this problem. For example the Police issued Wheel Clamp/Lock would need a "5 stage" pick locking sequence (like the police cars/doors). Alternatively, resetting the hot-wiring would also be a good idea, so the Criminal has to pick the 5 lock wheel clamp, then the 2 lock car door and finally the hotwire minigame to steal the impounded car.

I found the below script online from a quick Google Search, I know nothing about FiveM server modding/coding so apologies if it's not suitable, just a suggestion of how it could be done!

I would love other peoples input on this subject, from all perspectives involved in the matter, so please share your thoughts!

I like this idea, don't see any downsides other than Dev work/time - Plenty of local cars everywhere and driving past on all the roads so it's not like criminals HAVE to lockpick the wheel clamp unless they want that specific car!

Seems perfectly logical tbh. I love the mechanics help and anything that helps mechanics stay around being active. +1

By waiting it means you get to have extra possible RP with the mechanic and also ensures that the vehicle doesn't despawn due to nobody being nearby (which I'm guessing is why the vehicles aren't there half of the time)

While I agree with the RP part, if an officer waits by a car while a shootout is going on, or someone is being kidnapped then there is the question of if that officer should be an officer. My other point to this is that irl, an officer would put a clamp on a car and leave a ticket, they won't hang around and call a mechanic.

As for the despawning part, I don't know anything about GTA/FIVEM on the development side, however is it possible to either
A) Make the wheel clamped car a permanent entity so that it doesn't despawn?
B) Make it similar to current Mechanic jobs that just "spawn" the car when you get close.

No

Yes but that wouldn't make any sense since it doesnt make sense to despawn the car then for it to reappear whenever the mechanic gets close

Is there any way to tell if it has despawned? Then make it so that:

If car has despawned = Respawn when Mechanic gets close
If car is still loaded = Leave as is

As for the RP side of it, yes it gives us RP to the Mechanic but, what RP is there? "Hey, it's this car" "Oh, thanks pal, cya".

If we could clamp them it would add more RP and fun to both sides imo. For instantance:
A) Mechanic doesn't lose a job they had no clue was there
B) Criminal can pay there and then to get the clamp removed (If it's their own vehicle for example)

I personally feel this would add more RP to the server. Example: Police clamp a car and ask for a mechanic to come. The clamp will stop the person or baldie getting in the car and just driving off, to avoid RP, and putting someone out of pocket. The owner of the clamped car could get a text to say pay now to get it removed, and then be fined and told to leave, or just lets the mechanic pick it up and get this from impound. I love this idea a lot!

Love it, think it would add an extra avenue for RP for the police, mechanic job is very antisocial and this could be something more exciting!

Has been suggested a few times, good suggestion. +1

I think the issue here 1A3 is that people become repeatedly disheartened when the drive across the city to find a none existent vehicle. I agree with the other players that anything that keeps the vehicle there for longer will stop mechanics just not bothering with this. Especially as we in Police don't really use Bob these days because we want to cater towards Mechanics.

I couldn't think of a better idea, I spend hours every day doing these types of jobs and it is really frustrating when you spring into action and drive to a job as fast as you can for the car to be gone or in the process of being stolen especially outside of pillbox. I have easily lost millions because of this and missed out on a ton of potential roleplay.

I would really love to see this added, even if it was added temporarily to see if it works out.
