Ban Reason: C1.2 - Discriminaion
Why do you think you were banned: I can’t provide a definitive reason due to no report being made, however I am mature & honest enough to own up for my mistakes. I believe I was banned for singing the, to some controversial, song "Come Out, Ye Black and Tans" whilst playing on the FiveM server. If anything is wrong I apologise as the ban occurred sometime after the incident from memory.
If there are other reasons please let me know and I will answer questions about it honestly as I do quite want to get unbanned.
I apologise if I wrote too much, I wanted to ensure my mindset behind my actions was properly documented to allow you to make an informed decision.
For those unfamiliar with the song:
Backstory to why I sang the song:
Myself and several of Hayes Autos were to put it simply, pissing about, on the server early in the morning. This included a trade war with Ottos where we blocked eachothers stores with containers, had a street fight and later had meetings with the BoC in regards to Hayes becoming a recognised business. At this time I was the solicitor for Hayes and was working on a contract which is why I was involved to begin with. Looking back on it even during the above I could see how these standards aren't acceptable or of the quality they should have been when playing on a serious RP server, let alone a server I have been a member of for over 5 years now. The feeling at this time was quite light-hearted, with everyone having a good time and joking around with eachother or gently "tapping" eachother with cars.
During the above, from memory, a small group of mechanics and myself began to talk in Irish accents. To this day am unsure why we started doing it.
After this I received a call from a member of the LSPS, an officer whose name I unfortunately do not remember, requesting me at Sandy Shores to represent two suspects. We made our way up there along with W.Hayes from Hayes Autos who tagged along.
We arrived there and from the get go my RP was not at the standard it should have been, a fact I can only beg forgiveness for. Us three were constantly giggling, making random noises or again just pissing about, our RP falling well below where it should have been. Whilst I understand and accept that of course pissing about is part of the fun of FiveM and even of RPUK, I recognize that my actions negatively impacted those around me, especially the LSPS officer. The officer in question eventually got fed-up with our childish and immature behaviour and asked us to leave. Initially I protested, asking to stay if I corrected my behaviour however he was adamant we left, a decision I completely agree with in hindsight and in truth a decision I also would have made should I have been in his shoes.
The remainder of this will have to be rough as unfortunately I do not remember it much:
Whilst being escorted out, we began to talk with Irish accents again, finding the entire situation hilarious at the time. For the sake of context during this situation many will remember the Bingle "Bombings" of the LSPS stations in the city and further afield, and in my infinite wisdom I decided to make a joke regarding this.
It was at this time I began singing the aforementioned song "Come Out, Ye Black and Tans" as part of this joke, whilst pretending to hold a "bomb" (from memory I was holding a cardboard box similar to what the "Justice League" & "Bingle" would do when roleplaying similar scenarios whilst saying the box was C4". From memory I sang the first four lines of the song before driving away with my two companions whilst laughing about the entire situation.
Unbeknownst to me, the officer in question was Irish. In truth I simply did not hear nor realise his accent and am confident in saying that if I had heard his accent I would have stopped, or simply never began singing the song anyway due to offence or issues it could cause.
As I have mentioned above, the song is controversial to some, whilst to others (myself included at the time) it was just a catchy song to sing along too. I have studied Irish history, including the IRA and this song in specific for sometime prior to the incident occurring, with the majority of my family being Irish, including me to a degree. The song had some years prior entered the charts and at the time was a popular "meme" song with many posts featuring it. I had an intricate knowledge of the song and found it to be a good piece of well written, well sung wartime music.
To put it simply, it is utterly and painstakingly clear to see why I was banned SHOULD this be the reason I was. I ignored the impact a song like this could have on someone, especially someone else who was also Irish, irrespective of where they stand on the argument of the IRA, and decided to sing it for the sake of singing it to make my friends laugh. Thankfully I have been informed that the officer did not take any offence whatsoever and infact found the situation funny but that does not change what could have happened nor the fact I sang it and should face the repercussions.
My roleplay on that day was far below the standards of RPUK, and the standards I hold myself to, and for that I can only apologise and guarantee that if given another chance, it would not occur again.
Why should we unban you: Since the day of the incident it is something which is often on my mind as one of my biggest mistakes. I am often reminded by how big of a mistake I made when I look at the forums and see my old groups growing big and strong, or hear colleagues talking about what they got upto in the server the night before. This appeal is something I have been wanting to write since the day of the ban but is something I have held off on doing so I could properly improve & educate myself prior to requesting to come back.
I am more than aware of the impact my actions could have had on another player, and am aware that my conduct was not fit of a high-standards RP server. All I can chalk the entire incident up to is I got over-excited and made a series of poor decisions on the day which lead me to the Sandy Shores station singing the song. I take full responsibility for my actions and have understood and taken the punishment on the chin since August last year, not making an unban appeal since our of respect for the punishment.
RPUK is a community I have been in (by my maths) for nearing 5 years now, starting as a PC in Altis moving to Los Santos as a PC & Lawyer and everything in between. RPUK is where I have made lifelong friends, people I consider family and even where I realised that someone I work with is someone I have RP'd with for the last 5 years too (much to our surprise), I’ve even met my housemates here!
Whilst my time in RPUK has been to a small degree turbulent (especially on Arma3 where I was the bane of Altis Police and more recently on FiveM where I have met with staff more than I care to admit, including previously being perm-banned for 10 minutes due to a massive misunderstanding with staff which was quickly resolved and several gentle reminders here and there) I have always RP’d to the best of my ability, evidenced by the multiple "recommend a roleplayer" messages I have received for my highly detailed RP experiences I made for players.
Even when I stole a large amount of police equipment I took part in an 8 hour long interview with 5 separate interviewers whereby I avoided a (well deserved) ban due to the extraordinary lengths I went to during the RP to build a highly detailed anti-corruption storyline for all to enjoy.
Also at the time of my ban several of my legal documents were being used as examples for junior solicitors to use due to how indepth they were further evidencing that this was a one-time slip up in an otherwise rarely tarnished RP portfolio.
In terms of what I can offer there is a fair bit. I was known for building lengthy legal documents and acting as an excellent solicitor, helping to make the (at the time) 3rd largest Law Firm in the city in less than 2 months time. I have a detailed knowledge of the law & policing from numerous other roleplay communities I have partaken in since and first-hand medical knowledge from IRL experience. All of this I am happy to provide to the server should I be given a second chance. I helped to build the original Occult from the roots prior to the revamp and acted during this time as the High-Priest, one of the most RP heavy roles in the group whereby I was responsible for "sacrificing people to the dark lord" during intricate rituals and trials. I have also began making websites as a hobby, something I want to bring into RPUK to help build role play more.
To sum all of the above up. I made a stupid, inconsiderate mistake which cost me friends and a community I literally have grown playing alongside. I recognise how my behaviour on that day harmed the community and I am deeply sorry. I guarantee if provided another chance this infraction, or any similar would not reoccur. I have taken steps to educate myself even more than previous regarding the Troubles and this song in particular and recognise the error of my ways.
In the event the officer in question is also reading this. I am sorry for any issues I unintentionally caused on that day. I promise it was completely unintentional and was a result of me being an utter pillock.
Thank you very much to whomever reads this appeal and I hope you find me worthy of receiving another chance.
All the best, happy Monday and looking forward to a reply as I am eager to get back in and provide high quality RP again!
James
