Why should we unban you ?:
Firstly, thank you to staff for taking the time to read my appeal. If my memory is correct, this will be my 5th appeal since I was banned in June 2022, approximately 15 months ago. My previous appeal was slightly over 3 months ago, at which point I was told it was a "no for now". I took this as a sign that my appeal may be entertained in the future, and so I have decided to appeal again after a 3 month wait period. After so many appeals, it may be difficult to sound original without repeating myself however, I will give it my best shot.
As more time passes, things do become harder to remember. I have included links to all of my previous appeals, which should fill any gaps, however, I have also read through these to refresh my memory on things.
I first received a ban due to a player report showing me using an emote during a gun fight. The rules had changed not long before this took place, and I fully understand the reasoning behind this choice. I had been on the other end of people spamming emotes during gun fights, and they did create a very unrealistic feel to things and an unfair advantage. I had never done it previously, and the emote was not used with a keybind, however, this does not excuse its use. As it has been so long, I will include a link to the player report - https://www.roleplay.co.uk/topic/139946-report-a-player-jason-barnes-vagos-gta-rp/#comment-798755
You will see in the clip that the emote was used once. This was due to the wall not allowing me to get cover using regular game mechanics (I think it's Q bind?) Following the emote, I did then manage to find where the wall would allow me to take cover correctly. I take full responsibility for this mistake, which was made in a moment of sheer panic. I have never been pulled prior to this for anything relating to gun fights or an unfair advantage, as I am not one to ever really be bothered if I get downed and can very easily take an L in situations.
If my memory serves me correctly, it was around 1 month after this ban, while still banned, that I received a further C1.6 ban. At this point in time, someone within Vagos was leaking discord messages shared between members in a private channel. In relation to my part in all of this, a single screenshot of my message was shared with staff. This is available for staff to view, so I won't repeat what words it contained. As I have stated a number of times in the past, the words in the screenshot did not have any malicious intent or ill will towards anyone directly however, I can fully accept how they are not acceptable both online and offline.
At the time of my message, people were being banned left, right, and center. I was still convinced at this point that no one would be leaking discord messages, as everyone did consider each other a "friend." As a way to "test" this theory, I stupidly wrote the message that staff have on my file - Not only was this a moment of stupidity, which is not acceptable, it also does not reflect me as a person nor does it represent my views and thoughts in my every day life.
Anyone that knows me from RPUK would also back me on this, and I can confidently say I have never expressed these kinds of views to anyone, ever, other than the screenshot that unfortunately came to light. I can only apologise for it, and I am embarrassed by its permanent existence and how it reflects on me as a person.
At some point during all of this (before, during, or after, I'm not sure), I received a further ban. A member of Vagos was banned for PEGI. Knowing that this person was in fact not PEGI, and as a senior member of Vagos, I decided to open a ticket to discuss this with staff. During the discussion with TBJ, I was asked directly if I knew of any Vagos who were underage, to which I replied no. Instead of being up front, I decided to lie to protect members of Vagos. Again, I felt a sense of responsibility and didn't want to be the cause of people not being able to play RPUK any more. Looking back, this was a massive mistake, and I should have raised my suspicions there and then. Following this, an apparent voice clip was provided to staff, proving that I lied in the ticket.
There is not a lot I can say about this, as once again, poor judgement on my part played a big part in this incident. As a side note, I would just like to point out that the suspicions I had about underage members were well known, and this included the people who provided staff with the voice clip. If anything, friendships were quite strong between those I suspected of being PEGI and those who shared the clip to get me banned for it. This does not excuse me at all, and I would like to directly apologise to TBJ for lying and breaking the trust that he puts in members of the community to both play fairly and safely.
I fully understand the need for PEGI, as it protects both those under 18 and those over 18 for a number of different reasons.
Following the Vagos bans, a video was then released that included personal information about people from the RPUK community, quite similar to the one that was recently released. I can say in all honesty that I 100% disagree with the creation of both videos, new and old. If people are really that bothered about being banned from an online game that they feel the need to attack and expose IRL information about people, then they really are quite sad and pathetic. The amount of time and effort it takes to even make such a video actually makes those people laughable, not the ones they are trying to expose in the videos.
Knowing that I would someday like to return to RPUK, I distanced myself from any saltyness and bitterness and made sure to behave appropriately. I'm mature enough to understand that everyone wants to come back at some point, and I didn't want to jeopardise that at any point.
In terms of what has happened between then and now, to be honest, not a lot has happened. Immediately after all of the bans, Vagos splintered very quickly, and the odd discord popped up. I spent some time in these with a few people, but they quickly died and fizzled out.
I have since attempted several other RP servers, most of which required very detailed whitelist applications and held a very high standard of roleplay. Although I was successful in being allowed in these servers, they never did have the same feel, and a lot were US style RP, which did not appeal to me as much as a UK theme. I have also tried the odd UK based server, but I found myself constantly comparing them to RPUK, and they just didn't feel the same. I haven't touched much RP as of late, and any spare time that I have had, I've spent on my PS5 and on single player games, such as when the only up craze hit or anything similar to that.
To be honest, I haven't had much contact with anyone still active in RPUK, however, I have kept up to date with the development via the forums and the unban/report sections, mainly just out of habit, and when I am bored, I like to have a look and a read. I also spent some time recently on DDesign's Twitch stream. I have followed him on Twitch since I was an active player and often check what he is up to. I noticed he was working on the gang clothing, so I took an interest while I was working from home. It was nice to interact with some familiar people from the community, and it was interesting to see the gang development that was going on.
Prior to all of the above taking place, which did happen over a very short space of time, I feel I was a valued member of the community. Other than 2 small bans when I first started, I had a very clean ban record and was not the type of person who found themselves constantly on the Unban forums.
I took a lot of pride in creating RP scenarios for other people and Vagos in general, both winning and losing. I was famously known for agreeing to a roleplay scenario that I knew would end in Vagos taking an L, however, with RP in mind, I convinced everyone to go ahead with it and then later took stick for it. Personally, I found a lot more fun in scenarios being interesting and fun rather than the outcome always being a W - something I think a lot of people still struggle with today.
I feel I do deserve another chance to return so that I can be given the opportunity to show this side of me to more people who may not have interacted with me in the past. I am mature and old enough to be able to learn from my past mistakes, and I can guarantee that I will never be involved in anything similar again moving forward. I would like to return to reconnect with familiar faces and also experience the server as It is clear to see that, from the development side of things, a lot has changed.
I know I have a lot to offer in terms of roleplay. I was always full of fun and interesting ideas, and I feel I could continue this if I was allowed to return.
I would also enjoy getting to know the new people who have since populated the server. My intentions to rejoin are solely for myself and my own enjoyment. I look forward to making new connections with people on the server and surrounding myself with people more suited to the community who have its best intentions at heart.
I regret that I have been tarred by the "Vagos Brush," and I am now seen as someone who I do not believe I am. I can understand how, to anyone simply looking at my RPUK history, I may seem like someone who should not be welcomed or given a second chance. However, I feel once people get to know me properly, they will quickly see that it is not a representation of me as a person.
I hope the effort shown in this appeal and those before it is a demonstration of how seriously I take my bans and the chance of being unbanned. I regret that I am in this position, and I can wholeheartedly say that I regret everything I was ever involved in.
It is unfortunate, but it is the position I find myself in, and so I must do my best to make things right.
I hope I can be given this opportunity.
Thank you for reading.
JB.
