In your own words, please type why you think you were banned.: I was banned under the C1.2 rule, the rule states "Do not express discriminatory or otherwise offensive views. This is no place for racism, religious hatred, ageism, sexism, homophobia, gender or disability discrimination", I breached that rule by making a immature and nasty comment that mocked a religious book by likening it to that of a fairytale. I should not have done this and I of all people should have been aware that this comment was unacceptable especially given the amount of times I myself have reported others under the C1.2 rule.
Why should we unban you ?: There is quite a bit of context behind this comment being made, but before I digress into the context I wish to make it known that this IS NOT an excuse, it is merely and explanation of what lead to me making this mistake.
It began with a screenshot being sent to myself and another member of the community who is trans which showed an individual making the following comment "2 genders", this statement is often made by either two types of people. Either those who are 'edgy' and do so merely to provoke a reaction or by transphobic people who are in essence trying to say that trans people's gender identity is invalid or wrong etc.
From what I remember this comment was then posted in one of the channels on RPUK Groups and the person who made it was asked why they thought it was appropriate to say. This lead into the channel becoming flooded with different remarks parroting that of the initial screenshot, eventually this led down to the other trans member being deliberately misgendered. This is where I came in and entered the conversation, I began off by trying to educate individuals but this was met with deaf ears and all I got in return was the same inflammatory comments deliberately aimed at gender.
This is where I seen Omiz make the comment "it's adam and eve for a reason" a common argument made by religious people to try and justify homophobia and this angered me, I then made the nasty comment to him which I was later banned for and in return was subject to abuse and bullying for the days following after it, comments where made deliberately misgendering me and also targeting my body obviously aimed to push the idea that I am not a woman but in fact a man. These comments led to my mental state deteriorating and in order to distance myself from it all I left the Discords hoping I would eventually stop being a target of the barrage of abuse.
I almost didn't return, however I do not want to give these people what they want, they want rid of me and made that very clear and I very stupidly gave them something to use against me. What I should have done was stop interacting with them and left the situation to be dealt with by staff within the ticket I had already opened, my comment only came from a place of emotional rage with the only intention to inflict the same hate that I had received and seen other trans members receive and this was not ok. I know all to well how it feels to be attacked for something so personal to me and I deserved my ban and it has taught me a valuable lesson that just because people may target me and give me abuse that I have no right to give them abuse in return.
In future I will allow staff to deal with clear comments made with the intention of baiting a response from people like me instead of doing what they want and giving an emotional response. I hope that one day RPUK can be rid of all bigoted hatred and be a warm welcome place for all to have fun and be a member of. I would like to thank the staff team for reading my appeal and look forward to your response, I just hope that there is still a place for me in RPUK and that I will be welcomed back into the community.
