The veterans of Arma 3 probably know about these tweaks

I have only owned Arma 3 since the beginning of this year and consider myself a novice on what the game mechanics. 4 days ago when looking for something completely different I stumbled upon a phrase involving the word -cpuCount= which immediatly drew my attention away from whatever I was searching for.

It was during the massive desync after latest patch but I put it in the launchers commandline and it made a helluva difference. Well eager to see if I could cram some more juice out of my 4770k + 290X I searched and found some more.

However I also read lots of players both on Bohemias own tech forum and in various private communities that the game already autodetects your hardware and optimizes the game for you so no need to put in more variable parameters. Ohhh were they wrong or what!?!

I currently run with the following added parameters on altislife.co.uk's launcher:

-cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 -maxMem=8192

... and I see a massive difference. I kid you not, the difference is almost like day and night. Perhaps my system is a one of a kind or those "auto detect"-fans simply are clueless little ...

I've added them one by one and each on of them makes a difference, although the first makes the most difference. I already had the Enable HT ticked on Ciarans launcher and it may have added a slight performance boost but the -cpuCount=X takes it from a pony to a race horse.

My system (if anyone is curious):

4770K

AMD 290X (4GB)

16GB Ram

USB Headset (onboard audio disabled)

Just my experience which I wish to share.

Oh won't you look at that what difference does it make, if I may ask? ☺

Performance as in Fps?

Thx 4 sharing ♥

I'm pretty sure that, no mater what value you put in, Arma wont use more than 4048mb ram.

These are the parameters i use.

-maxmem=4048 -cpucount=4 -exthreads=8 -nosplash -skipintro -noPause -world=emp -nobenchmark -malloc=tbbmalloc

tbbmalloc is a custom memory allocator for arma

Yeah, I read about the malloc but Im getting smooth gameplay from the changes I made so Im content. Will change the maxmem= to try it out, but there are claims that it can actually use the amount I was recommended.

Went up 10 frames, gunna do the one that PrincessShannon put in.

started using it on my old rig, boosted most gamemodes/missions/scenarios in arma by 20fps ^^

another good way to get more fps is from razer game booster, got +5-20fps from that aswell

@ DI Voltz any improvements?

Razor game booster only helps of you have a lot of crap running in the background.
