Dear Altislife.co.uk Community,
I believe many questions are currently going through your head as to the reasoning behind this topic, and that is very simple. The story is reasonably sad, however I am not looking for any sympathy.

About a year ago I lost my great grandma to Alzheimer's and Dementia. She was a wonderful lady and taken by a very cruel mental illness that seems to only becoming greater and greater, losing this woman had a huge impact on my family, and today I am writing this post to ask you as a person to please help raise awareness of this awful disease and if you have anything spare to sponsor my Mother, her partner and my younger brother, aged 7 years old, on a memory walk on October 3rd in Nottingham in aid of Dementia and Alzheimer's.

The sole purpose of this is to not ask for money, no. The entire honest reason I am making this post is purely for the awareness raising. I know this community is huge, and I believe that I am doing my part in assisting my family in what they are doing, as sadly I will not be taking part in the walk.
I understand that this illness, specifically dementia has effected thousands of people, and I know of many people who have had family effected by it, and it's time that we all came together to put a stop to it and find a cure.

If you wish to sponsor my family and help give a little bit of money, no matter how small or how large, to The Alzheimer's Society, I would be ridiculously grateful. If you have read this far, I thank you ever so much for taking your time to read, this was quite difficult for me to write as I understand I'm probably not the best at writing things like this. Godbless, Altislife.co.uk. #1 Community.

Just Giving:
"Around 225,000 people develop dementia every year – that’s the equivalent to one person every three minutes. This September and October Memory Walks will be taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to raise money for a world without dementia. Arm in arm, step by step and pound by pound, we will get there. Once you donate, Just Giving will send your money directly to the Alzheimer's Society. So it’s the most efficient way to raise money – saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Please dig deep and help us walk for a world without dementia."

Hopefully more people will follow suit and spare anything they can, Its not much but in numbers and with gift aid it all adds up :)

Thank you ever so much! This means the absolute world to me, and to see such high support from a huge community makes me want to cry.

I also lost my great grandmother to this horrendous disease, and I'm sorry for your loss. This is a great thing you are doing here, awareness around this illness needs to be raised, and the community will support you in every way possible.

Thank you!

Thank you for doing this! Like Washington said, the community will support you.

Nice to see someone raising money for a disease we know very little about.
My grandmother on my fathers side also died from Alzheimer's disease a couple of years ago.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother, I hope this community can come together to do our bit for the Alzheimer's Society.

My grandma also had Alzheimer's , it's hearthbreaking to see what it did to her , and also goodluck with the rasing for money for this disease , i wish you the best of luck!

My grandma suffers from Senile Dementia and it is horrible, it really really is. And so, from a perspective of someone who is experiencing what it does first-hand I would like to thank you for all the hard work you're putting towards this good cause.

I think I speak for the whole community when I say thank you, your great grandma would be so proud of you buddy, and you should be proud of yourself.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandma. Thank you for your kind words. I'm doing my part in helping towards the cause by doing the awareness side, but it's my Mother, Samantha Borrington, her partner Nathan Marriott and my younger brother, Connor, aged 7, who are doing the memory walk.

Again, thank you for your words.

If I manage to dig up any cash over the next few days expect a donation from me.

Thank you so much, but like I say, awareness is key here. Any donations are so heavily appreciated, though. Thank you.

No worries mate, good on you for doing it.

This is a great think you're doing. Never had any relatives with the disease but i've seen enough of it to kinda imagine how hard it can be not only for the person with the disease but for the family as well.

Im truly sorry about your great grandma! Will donate as soon as  i get the next paycheck

So nice to finally see us coming together as a community rather than cops vs rebels, if I had money spare I would most certainly donate.

Thank you for your kind words, any donation is hugely appreciated!

You sir, have my utmost respect. I myself have a grandmother, she is still alive, but that's all she is. She lost her will to live when my grandfather died 15 years ago. She went downhill within 2 years and within 1 year more could not walk anymore. For the last 5 years she has been in bed. Unable to walk, unable to have a coherent conversation. She does not remember my mother and her sister nor me, my brother and my two nephews. We try to see her every now and then and sit by her bedside, but it hurts me to do so. I want to remember my grandmother as she was, not how she became.

Alzheimers and dementia are a awfull disease. It does not directly kill, but it takes the person you know and love away and retreats them so far into themselves that there is no more interaction with the world around them. I wish we could just understand what she thinks, so we can talk to her in a way she can understand, but there is no way to reach my grandmother, of who I know she is still in there, somewhere.

Much thumbs up for you and your family and how you are handling this. Raising awareness and money for research so we can hopefully, one day, understand more about this condition and maybe, maybe even find a way to bring back the people we love into our world.

I tried to donate but I don't have a creditcard. Will be getting in touch with you to see if I can use paypal somehow.

Keep going!
