Temporary bans?

Hello ALUK community!

So, I have been thinking a lot about this subject here. At this present I have only have saw permanent bans here and I think its a bit unnecessary. Here is a lot of rules on the server and its not too hard to make a mistake and I'm grateful of this community because there is so many people who is resolving unwanted incidents before reporting people and usually it ends that both parties are happy and there is no need for open a report.

So, what I'm suggesting here?

I think it could be good to have temporary bans, something like 1 month ban or more. I think there is no need to give always Permanent ban if someone breaks the rules. It should be like what rules that person did break and and previous bans that will he get temporary ban or Permanent ban. If you get Temporary ban you will have time to think what you have done and when your ban expires then you have maybe learned from your mistake. If you break rules again then we should think of giving him permanent ban.

I just want to add that usually when you break a rule you get permanent ban, but mostly you get unbanned very soon so that is not punishment at all.

I think permanent bans are a great addition, it stops people from even considering breaking the rules and then them making a ban appeal shows that they actually care enough to want to re-join the server. This is the only server I have seen that has all permanent bans and I think that just makes it show that this is the most well moderated community currently on ArmA

Permanent ban = Makes people actually go on forums, read the rules and show us they want to come back with an appeal.

Temporary ban = "Oh i will be unbanned in a week anyway, i'm just going to play Dota2 for now"

I don't think temporary bans work, and usually people learn from the first ban because they know they probably won't have a third chance.

The perm ban also gives the admins a chance to talk with the player and ensure that they have read the rules and do understand what they did was wrong. If there is a player who is too toxic or who is unwilling to acknowledge the rules they've broken it gives the admins a chance to weed them out.

- over 9000 temp bans would just be a laughing matter for some people who get banned. Think about it this way would you really want someone who just body glitches you to be able to come back in a month and do it again?

Depending how you look at it we do run a temp ban system. It is only in place until a successful appeal is made, which due to a very efficient team can be as little as 24 hours. Those who do not appeal either do not care, or haven't taken the time to find the forum and read the rules. Certain rules do carry a perm ban, and players who get unbanned and continue to break rules will also find themselves on the receiving end of a perm ban. A system which has worked very well so far.

I'm very glad we got many responses here and I think I got the result here. Now when I have saw other peoples thoughts there is not really need for temporary bans at all as this is working very well with current system.

I agree with what Cardoso stated. Making players sign up/ visit the forums if they're banned atleast shows that want to play here.

Why should this community have to allow people who break whatever rule they have the chance to come back although they may not have bothered to read the rules through their temporary ban time.

It would probably add more stress to our amazing administrator team so time can't be spent on members who deserve community activities like KOTH Friday/ our weekly event!

Just my opinion.
