Thought it might be a cool addition to have it so, in your Mobile, there is a News Section where you can read the latest news from the island which could include, but is not limited to:

  • Upcoming server events
  • Changes to market prices (to reflect the economical state i.e. more trucks being bought = increase to iron prices)
  • Gang activity and areas for civilians to generally avoid at that time
  • Player stories
  • "New Player" assistance
This faction would spawn at Tanoa News (or whatever it's called), and be equipped with Press Vests, a Press Hat, Binos, and a Press-Skinned Off-Road or Jeep. They could go around getting quotes and player stories from users to report on. You could add into this by having "on-site photographers" (in-game screenshot takers) as well to accompany the story which could be included on the forum version of the news post.

There could be a section on the forums that the admins could post the information about increase to economy prices for the journalists to write up about and either submit for approval to an "editor" which posts in-game, or to the admins.

Elite: Dangerous currently have a News System in-place for their different sectors which adds a lot of RP into the game. Here's an example:

I'd say it pays, but you couldn't put any sort of in-game mechanic for it. You'd get a slightly increased pension from the average civ, but then you get paid per article that's posted, say once a week in one lump sum.
