Stolen vehicles scrapped by coppers?

Hey folks

My hemmit was stolen following me being robbed.... it ended up being scrapped by the police, I assume the cops caught them (I did report it stolen and the location of it!)...

I would have thought it be more appropriate to return to the victim (me) via an impound rather than scrap it?!

Thoughts folks?

If I stopped a group of 5 people, who all were doing coke in boxed hemtts i would check registration and see if it matches with at least one of the names, of these 5 persons, if their names doesn't show up on the registration i would send a text message to the owner, or impound it. 

But we are allowed to scrap stolen vehicles if they are used in a crime, but then we are supposed to give a compensation to the person who had his vehicle stolen.
