Static noise when listening to recordings...

So, I record via Shadow Play and as of late I have been hearing a static noise from my microphone. Now, I have bought a shitty cheap headset to test to see whether it was my headset or another problem and it appears to be "Another Problem" since I am still hearing the static noise. Could anyone help with this?

Here is an example of what I mean:

I apologise if this is in the wrong forum section.

@Fluqi it's most likely just ambient noise being picked up by the microphone. Try right clicking on the volume indicator in the system tray bottom right -> recording devices. Select your microphone device and click 'Properties' Click on the 'Levels' tab and try adjusting the Volume of the microphone. Sometimes there is also a 'Microphone Boost' option, this increases the gain and will induce hiss as it artificially tries to increase mic volume.

On the 'Listen' tab you can also select 'listen to this device' to see if it's constantly producing hiss. If it is - it's just the mic pick-up.

Report back with how it goes.

@ZeitoThat helps! Is there a way to turn down the Microphone (which decreases the static) but turn my microphone up? It makes me sound quieter if I turn down the Microphone Option!

Try a very small amount of Mic boost. You might have to balance it out a bit until you find a happy mix.

That VoizReal EXP tab is part of your Realtek sound chip as well - check in there for anything mucking about with your sound and have a look at this:

Micboost = Instant static that I can hear not only from a video recording but in my ear normally...

@Zeito

Okay in that case i'd say it's just how the mic is and it picks up a lot of noise. What sort of headset are you using? @Fluqi

I have Astro a40's as my main but I bought a cheap shitty one from argos to make sure it wasn't my headset and it happens on that still.. I don't think it's the microphone.. + It never happened before. It's only recently changed (since the major Windows 10 update)

do they go through an external box before connecting to the pc? Anything to fiddle with there?

Nope. Plugs straight into the PC from the back!

Should there be? I keep seeing references to a MixAmp. If not - is it a 3.5mm jack headset?

does twisting/fettling with the cable induce/reduce static?

Also refers to the mixamp and audio/mic hiss.

I thought you were talking about the shitty headset. My Astros have a mixamp, yeah... Everything is working fine and as I stated, before the large Windows 10 update it was fine.. I think i have it working. Just need to test whether people can hear me in ts, which I am doing now... Will post update when I get someone to talk to.

While it's convenient to correlate it to the windows 10 update, it unlikely to have affected it unless there have been changes to your RealTek driver or any of the software that controls the mixamp if it shows as an alternative sound card.

Have a look at the video i posted - best to concentrate on just getting the good headset working. I too got the big windows 10 update but haven't noticed any adverse audio quality on my headset - Corsair Gaming H2100

Okay, this is what I have found out!

If I have this on 50 = No static but I cannot talk on TS.. It doesn't pick up my mic unless I shout.

If I have it on 100 =  Alot of static and people can hear me on teamspeak as clear as day.

Microphone boost gives me instant static.

VoizReal doesn't really help at all.

This is the most annoying thing in the world. What have windows done to me :'(

I do appreciate any help you have an will continue to give me <3 @Zeito

Also worth seeing if there any updates for your sound drivers from your mobo manufacturer. @Fluqi

My current soundboard: ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)

What would you recommend?

basically any of the following will do,

https://www.google.co.uk/search?num=50&biw=1760&bih=890&tbm=shop&q=sound+blaster+audigy+pcie&oq=sound+blaster+audigy+pcie&gs_l=serp.3...29120.30969.0.31557.7.7.0.0.0.0.103.479.6j1.7.0....0...1c.1.64.serp..1.5.370.MXADoe0w-p8

Select from that list what you need/want in features, e.g. stereo 5.1 7.1 optical, more you want / need the higher the price.

Now I have a wireless headset it goes in Via usb, I dont need one anymore. But your going to love the quality increase :D
