Thinking about building myself a computer, currently running a laptop with a 960m and some games just aren’t performing as well as I’d like so I’m plan to build myself a desktop in a few months or so. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/MFJsq4 got this so far, any thoughts feed back would be appreciated, trying to keep budget around 1.2 thanks

You need another motherboard. X470 at least, but for that to work you need a 2xxx series cpu to update your bios for it to work. To get it to work straight out of the box, you need a x570 motherboard

No need for the cooler, that Ryzen comes with the "Wraith" cooler that's sufficient unless you want to buy a big cooler or AIO cooler that's a complete waste of 25 quid. You won't be doing much overclocking on that.

As @CI JAEGARN said, you will need a x570 or x470 motherboard. (Something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-X470-GAMING-Motherboard-Processors/dp/B07CFSHGLY/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=x470+motherboard&qid=1562814587&s=gateway&sr=8-2)

I think your choice of drives is not too great. But that comes down to personal opinion. You are picking up a 512GB SSD, you will run out of that very very quickly. Your secondary storage is a 5400RPM HDD, which is quite slow. Take the money you save on the cooler and put them into this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-FireCuda-Gaming-Internal-Hybrid/dp/B07H28SY38/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=firecuda&qid=1562814742&s=gateway&sr=8-4. SSHD drive. I have this one myself and is decent.

I don't like the case but that's just my opinion, disregard that 😂 (this one is nice https://www.nzxt.com/products/h500-matte-black)

Graphics cards. RTX 2070 is already outdated... There is a new line up of RTX 2XXX Super GPU's - https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/graphics-cards/rtx-2070-super/

You could either go for RTX 2070 Super - the prices are most likely gonna come down very soon, once AMD RX 5700XT comes out, or you could go for the RT 5700XT, but that obviously depends on your preference

Another way to save cash as well, get 1070 or 1080, possibly TI versions. Most games don't have ray tracing, so the 20 series is a bit overkill for just playing Arma.

But if you have a good monitor, and are planning to play a lot of new AAA games, then 2070 should be a good (and expensive) choice

I appreciate all the feedback everyone, a quick question, I have limited plans to use ray tracing (probally only on Minecraft or somthing lol) so is it worth it to go with a 2070 super or a 1080 to for performance in non ray tracing games (primary arma given that's what I mostly play) thanks

Really appreciated all you guyses feedback, currently settled on this https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/xY73fH any other upgrades/downgrades you guys would recommend (idk if CPU seems overkill cause it like 300 quid lol) or if you guys reckon its worth it (am currently happy at the price point but wouldn't mine knocking off some money if it's not going to affect performance) thanks 🙂
