My wisdom tooth was growing the wrong way, instead of going up, it was growing inwards to my mouth so had to be unconscious for it to be removed. Afterwards they advised me not to smoke and being the hard man I am, I decided to smoke. 2 weeks later, still in agony, still unable to eat hard foods (besides a mince beef pie, yum!) and was advised to go to the hospital again. Turns out, I had an infection in the socket where the tooth was and they'd have to put some flux (looks like horse hair) soaked in antiseptic inside of the actual tightly sewn hole, I was offered anesthetic but refused and gripped the chair as hard as possible while they used a pair of tweezers to tightly pack this hole full of fibrous hell.
Never had issues since, but those 3 weeks were agony.
