Should we really have a Red-Zone?

How about we kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Not a big red zone - but a no mans land in between the UNMC sovereign territory and the United Kingdom. The road is the only safe transport route however drug smugglers will then have to imagine ways of smuggling drugs through the border by boat for instance, SO not a redzone but more of a no mans land.
No, I don't agree with this to be honest. I think everybody should be able to go everywhere and RP, because if we have these small spaces where there is no RP it might influence people to not RP later on in other places. If all places were non-redzone people would be able to RP better and get into the habit of it :)

No the point is like - it isn't actually a redzone, just a sort a space of baron land which prevents UNMC invasion 

Could create a border force too if it worked but just a suggestion ;p

 
In my opinion, I do not think we should have a redzone to be honest, why can't people just go on the Exile server if they want to "blow off steam", its got a perfect mod for kill on site gameplay, I feel that the addition of the redzone was completely unneeded in the first place, and adding it back seems to be both a waste of time, and a waste of potential RP space.
i have to agree Ciaran, i came to this server purely to learn rp, and being told that this was the best for doing so, what the point of having a zone where no rp is needed, as you said there's other games that can be for that, so to have a zone that is purely no rp then that beats the whole idea of AltisLife, might as well just set up as a sniper an stay there for the whole duration, Pointless, Worthless and purely for those that have none or little knowledge on what RP is..... if you now disagree with that last point ... prove it vote for no and show me you can RP

 
I don't think a redzone has any place in an RP server. Previously, it was very inactive apart from the occasional event and a few shootouts over gang bases. For the amount of area it took up it was not used NEARLY enough,

The way I see it, that area of land could be used to improve the server and add cool new features rather than a place for people who just wanna KOS. The poll is pretty even but i'm very surprised that 100+ people voted for the redzone as I doubted it would have that many supporters.

I would really like to see the arguments of someone voting 'for' the redzone. I only see it as an RP free zone and a place for rebels to run to when cops chase them.

What if gang bases were focused around one area of the map, and each base had a "red zone" surrounding it, but only in the terms they can KOS anyone entering that zone. They should off course try and #RPeverything before they decide to kill anyone, but if an armed threat is seen approching, they could decide wether or not to open fire?
This zone should be 200-400m around the base.

I also thought of putting the red zone somewhat south of Pyrgos, in the hilly areas, could make for interesting combat and tactics to be used. All though I'd prefer some, lighter, rules to apply in the zone.

But if possible, I think the zone should be walled in, and have checkpoints along it.
If the wall isn't possible, some simple checkpoints on the border to show when someone enters the red zone. I remember back in the day, where you'd be killed by people, because they thought you were in the red zone, and you werent.

All though all together, I would prefer no red zone.

 
We need a redzone.. There is a lot of rivalry between gangs and saying to go let steam off on wasteland is a poor way to solve it because the big gangs will just case havok in cities and people will get in the cross fire and call rdm having the redzone where all the gang bases are will help rebel groups leave their grudges across the border, yes people will camp bases but it's no different to when police camp the drug dealer also the whole bottom right hand side is only used to get gear anyway so I don't see how it creates RP stories..

The police can already not be in the UNMC Area without permission if the UNMC get implemented

Then we have a redzone again need permission while sometimes there are drug area's or outposts where the police comes to

in my opinion its just a safezone for the rebels as we need to have permission so we can not get in the redzone so they just drive towards it and its really bad RP
And police drives to their police station's meaning blue zones? Everyone run's where they feel safe mate that argument is senseless...

 
another thing that annoys me about the redzone is the fact that alot of people have to spam enter to join the server, just because some people want to play wasteland or exile... (to anyone who really wants to play wasteland or exile is reading, i have a secret to share with you: go and play on an exile or wasteland server and stop wasting slots on an RP server.)...... RP means roleplay btw.

 
Several years back I've played on a couple of SAMP (San Andreas Multiplayer) servers. On those servers there was a lot of rivalry in between different gangs. Their main focus was fighting (RP'ly) to regain control over their 'turf'   This didn't meant that people were getting killed all the time. However they would either take them hostage or (RP'ly) beat them up.  I've noticed that to many gangs have their focus on firearm related crimes against Law Enforcement.  Why not divide Kavala or other cities up in sectors. This means that 'Gang 1' is able to claim a section of Kavala. However 'Gang 2' which could be a new group is going to challenge them for that particular area. You could start seeing groups of gang members on street corners having a chatter, or other creative roleplay. Their main focus is to protect their turf against rival gangs. Law Enforcement is still able to patrol the streets, because causing to many shootouts with Law Enforcement mean that police is going to focus their attention on that area and basically mean that the gang is going to lose their turf. However this concept demands that gangs aren't going to grab their firearms to quick, instead focus on other ways to intimidate their 'enemy'. 

And as mentioned above by someone, why waste server slots on people that wanna shoot each other on sight, when people that actually wanna roleplay are attempting to connect to the server. There are other alternatives to have your 'Deathmatch' sessions, that is why ALUK has a Exile Server at the moment. Perfect place to blow off some steam if you ask me.

I think a redzone could add alot, perhaps not a huge area of it, but for my opinion you choose to go there if you dont want to have roleplay situation. but anyways i think that redzone can add alot of interesting stuff into it, because its the only place you allowed to kill on sight.

 
Red zone is not needed, specially to a roleplay server.

Blow steam off? Go somewhere else than a roleplay server, and if you feel the need for being allowed to RDM then maybe this server isnt for you? I have very often been mistaken RDM'd because people thought that a closeby town, or just in general places were RDM zones. There is in no way a redzone can be used for roleplay purposes, so I'd rather suggest getting the UNMC back, a place where the police dont go, but still following serverrules.

Also I'd like to use the whole map for roleplay and trips without having the risk of being RDM'd

 
If the 1/5 of the map which the redzone used to be in, is not goingto be utilized for anything new, then I support the redzone coming back. However if the recently released area is going to be full of new cities (maybe Pyrgos as a spawn point?) and more businesses, I would prefer the redzone not to come back. I have not been in the area when the redzone was there, and I am sure that only about 20% of the rebels use it less than 10% of the time they are on. I find it more useful to put something there that  100% of the people use, 20% of the time.

 
With having a maximum of 39 police on the server that makes for 10 patrol active patrols meaning 10 units. 8/9 if specialised units such as NPAS/AR/NIU are on duty. Even less if there's no 30 cops online and if there are simultaneous different specialised patrols going on. Also one unit has to remain in Kavala at all time if possible so that's 7 or so units available for the rest of the island.

As the left side of the island is the most popular there is more things to do. You won't really find units patrolling to the right side, especially the old redzone area because there's not much to do and no one goes there. If there is something happening and there's one unit there and they need backup, it's going to take a long time for backup to arrive ( crashing/ actual distance ) so it makes it super hard to patrol pretty much the whole island with restricted man power. That's my reasoning for implementation for cops, as the larger the red zone the less area we need to cover, resulting in a more efficient and proactive force.

Only if a gang WANTS their base to be in the redzone then It should be able to have it there as it creates good and funny combat scenarios.

The redzone is a risk zone with no 'police'/regulatory powers present. This allows for rebels to be their own and creates a 'wild west' type area which I think is great. If you get mad and wanna shoot someone, the redzone is a saftey net because you won't be banned for RDM/Low quality RP.

You can kill there but who is to say you won't be caught? You just can't be stopped or caught immediately thereafter.

 
I agree with Neo, the need for a Red Zone is not needed for example we was having the conversation earlier and if someone is coming up on the rebel outposts or such an area all you have to say is something along the lines of *go away or else* and then if they dont its fine to have a gun battle. All a Red Zone does is deny RP so because of the RP environment of the server I would say no.

Alright so let me get this straight

People want the red zone back because:

·         it will help people blow of some steam – Thats true i really agree with that

·         We don’t use all part of the map enough – No we don’t use all parts of the map so it would be something to put in the more empty areas

·         (alternative)We could have red zone in and around gang bases – Don’t like this idea. The gang bases are the gangs home (like their safezone) and if you put a red zone only on their bases… well I’d feel sorry for the gangs…                         

·         (alternative)Make red zone so you can KOS police officers only – If it was like this almost no officer would ever go there. Then it will just be as unused as before..

·         (alternative from @Summers)Not a red zone, instead no-mans-land between UK and UNMC area – I really fkn like this idea! It’s simple and still adds some of the red zone features. But still keeps the rp for all people to be happy.

Why people DON’T want the red zone back:

·         There is no RP (this is a serious RP server) – Yes it’s an extremely serious rp server. But id like to think of it like this; regular civilians never go to these areas, mostly armed gangs or armed lone wolfs do. I know that it does happen that people in big gangs RP with each other but it feels like its mostly about gun fight in those areas ( not 100% about this so correct me if im wrong, I rarely play rebel).

·         Harder for police to chase people if they flee into the red zone – Yeah some people do flee there. But since this is a serious rp server focused around a simulation of a more hostile version of real life. I think this feature just adds more to the real life perspective. Fleeing like this occurs in real life all the time. A good example is the border between Mexico and the U.S. People flee to Mexico to get away from police and it feels like the red zone works the same way.

·         People will abuse OP weaponry (e.g. armed offroad/snipers) – Yes people have the option to do this but how often will this happen? I mean, if there is a red zone people will try to avoid each other so it won’t be that big of an issue… right?

·         There will be better RP without it – Alright so I think that the most/best RP are played out around cities. I don’t think the rp in the areas between kavala and athira would change if a red zone was implemented at some other part of the map.

·         People will camp and rob each other –This is not a red zone only related issue

·         We already have EXILE – True we do have exile but to be able to play that you’d have to exit the game and try to convince all your friends to join you. + some might not know how to mod(or they’re just too lazy) and you would also have to meet up with your friends ingame which can be a pain.. But Exile and the red zone a two completely different ways of gameplay. Both are KOS, yes but its more of a high risk high reward kinda system in exile. If you die in altis life you could just respawn, take out your car and go and gear up again but in exile you would have to spawn somewhere and try to survive all the way to the airport store if you don’t want to find crapy gear yourself. 

·         Red zone is only about KOS – Yes it is.

·         Shooting out of the red zone onto the rp zone – Yes some people will be unsure what to do if you enemies are outside the red zone whilst youre inside the redzone. The map devs could put these cover thingys (Land_HBarrier_Big_F) on the border and make 2-3 outposts as entry points.

·         We can use the space for other cool new features – Well if you explain what features you’re talking about @Haywire  I’ll agree with you!
I don't know, there would be more space for new money making methods. Really anything that can improve the server further (I dont have any ideas at the moment but you know what I mean)

 
The redzone was a fun change of pace from time to time, and nobody is obligated to visit if they do not wish. I think it should come back, if only to give a bit of variety to the things we can do.

No talking =/= No roleplay. Rebels and Police must both be afforded opportunity to act in keeping with the roles we choose. The redzone is essentially a rebel safe zone where they have the upper hand, it gives them the opportunity to seek refuge, and it gives police the opportunity to mount high risk operations with many participants. All of these things are in keeping with roleplay, but, most importantly they are fun.
