Shipwreck hunting

Today I bought an excavator and dived down to one of the wrecks outside kavala. I brought up my menu and clicked used on my excavator when I was right next to the shipwreck but it said that I have to be close to the ship to use the excavator so I went inside the ship and went all around it but still got the same answer. Please help

There needs to be an active shipwreck marker on that location for you to use it, you can't go to any shipwreck marked on the map by the black spikes things - only the ones with a blue exclamation mark (!)

Just to add to this, the yellow exclamation mark can be excavated when it shows up, however if caught it is illegal just for this one.

It will spawn it random locations and you will be notified in the top right of your screen if a new one has just dropped.
