Hi, a couple of weeks ago i was trying to connect a second monitor to my pc, this second monitor is a TV screen and is fairly old so when i couldnt connect it to my computer i just assumed the reason was because it was to old as it was also not showing as a device.

However yesterday when i turned my computer on i noticed my desktop did not have any icons, and when i looked down i then realised that my old TV was now my main monitor (i leave it on standby mode thats why it turned on by its self). So i made first monitor my main monitor and i could use the TV as a second screen, so all was good.

But today when i turned my computer on my TV did not show any signs that the computer was connected to it and Windows 10 is not recognising the TV hooked upto the computer so i can no longer use it as a second screen, so does anyone know why it decided to work yesterday and how i can get it working again as i would really like to use it as it helps me with college work, thanks!

How do you have the screen connected to your pc?

Is the TV switched on, and on the correct Input Source?

Do you have your PC set to Duplicate/Extend Desktop? (win key+p)

Do you use any adapters? e.g dvi to vga to connect the tv

It is, the TV is on and it is set to PC like how it was yesterday, and my pc is set to extended. the TV is connected by a VGA cable

Is it plugged in properly

have you tried switching it off and on

When you say it's turned on, does that mean it's turned on before you turn your PC on?
Yes, i have tried turning it on before the computer is on, i have tried turning it on once the computer is on, i have tried leaving it on standby mode and then turning the computer on. I have also tried disconnecting my original monitor to see if i can use my TV as a monitor but no luck.

Do you have another VGA cable you can test with? or another type of cable if your gpu and tv have support for it (HDMI maybe)?

You also didn't answer if you are using any adaptors on the cable, so if you could answer that question too please.
