Roleplay or not to roleplay?

Well i hope the title grabbed your attention and good. i now have you trapped in a glass dome and its where you and i will stay for a while. So you might as well listen to my opinion.

I have been playing Roleplay games for a while but none match up with this server. I mean its great!. we have your rebels, civilians and your police and to be fair i would say that around 70% of the time, we all manage to roleplay well and have some kind of back story or some reason why we are to mug someone. But the thing is, its that small percentage of people that can totally ruin the whole game experience and god knows how new players must feel getting robbed in the areas that you shouldnt be even lifting your voice, let alone a weapon.

Now i know that roleplay can be tricky in certain situations but please, remember that this game is not about winning, its about showing a persona of you in a non rl form. I have encountered so many times as a civilian where im just going to the atm in the green zone and BAM! "stick your hands up mate or im gonna blow your head off"

Things running through my head here are

a: surely this green zone means something and its not just there to look pretty on the map

b: (a new guy) what the hell do i do here?

c: ROLEPLAY  you son of a bitch!

It makes me wonder because so many admins and higher ranks in the police force are normally so busy dealing with idiots that have no clue how to roleplay but i had a lightbulb momment and i think you should maybe consider reading up on google on any topics about roleplaying. I mean, i get that if someone is firing RPG'S at  you then all good. Feel free to return fire but to just open fire on people that arent even armed then maybe you should be hitting arma 3 standard for your thrill kills.

Im not having a dig at anyone at all here im just asking people to please take time to sit down for 5 minutes and read the rules here and please please please, remember we dont have a points system after a round. This is a persistent world and many friends can be made here no matter what the age difference. We all have one thing in common and its we all love gaming but combine that to a story that can be added in an online world and i call that ....50 shades of altis.

Please feel free to respond but i just thought i would drop an opinion. Thanks for reading this all.

Hello, I find this equally annoying when a hobo metagames saying like "PAR . Fergus, help my friend". And then you get the people who don't want to RP at all, they just run off and I end up moaning at them :*/

NHS was a lot more fun when people (and I mean pretty much everyone) roleplayed a lot more, for longer and roleplayed better.

It just depends who you are talking to, if it's a new person to the server, there is a very small chance he'll RP. However a member who has been here for a long time is much more likely to roleplay (but not always).

hi buddy. my point is not about anyone in paticular (hobo or super rich) i think its just more about how people have somehow forgotten about how great this server is and how just a handfull of people can ruin a lot of peoples gaming experience on here.

Yes, maybe a noob might not know how to roleplay or maybe he/she is shy but its giving them that chance to actually evolve into a rpg god lol

There are always going to be the few that don't try to RP, it's annoying (Why are they even here?) but generally I think most people I come across generally are pretty good.  The police have their ups and downs (always have done), newer members tend to like to "Wreck" people (I'm sure the cool kids spell that differently!?) and go out actively looking for confrontation but it settles down once they realise RP can be quite diverse and the whole "shooty shooty bang bang" thing gets old real fast.

NHS: I can only speak from my experiences which almost universally are good, if you give them the time they usually reward you with some often hilarious RP (If they fix you up don't just say cheers doc and run off!) - They've had some cracking recommendations on the forum recently ;-)

Hobos-  Again, if you lead by example, I've had some VERY funny times with them.

To be fair, we all get this,  (I'm sure you deal with it just fine but for any casual observers....) I find the best way to deal with it is just ignore it or RP through it i.e. Who is that? That's not my name! or say, I recognise you, don't you know my aunt? (and try and make the RP connection for them) Usually throws them enough for them to realise they've deviated from RP. They have to learn after all.

Plenty of good RPers here started off with this as their first RP game as a hobo. :)

ive been here a long time and all that time ive roleplayed ive learnt from the best mainly @Fuel @Neo@DR MiloMaratek @Adam @DainMKand @Unlucky George these are some of the best roleplayers on the server and thank god ive spent time with them otherwise my roleplay ability would be poor :) their are alot of other really good roleplayers out on the server as well just have to find them.

I normally always try my upmost to roleplay with someone who is trying with me. If I can see they've made a lot of effort to do what they're doing and it's something my roleplay character will be allowed to do (police/NHS/PMC) then I'll happily stand there and roleplay for a long period of time! If they're not really putting much into it and it's literally just a case of in their polar opposite in roleplay and I can't do much within the limits of my character then there's only ever the option of gunfights/leave the scenario!

I completely agree that everyone needs to take a step back because to be frank there people that have been here the same and/or less amount of time than myself (1 year) and they're still role playing in a lazy manner. I remember when I used to roleplay for ages with people and then we'd just go our separate ways, or there'd be that friendly guy on my money runs who I'd sit there and work with. Now it's so much more of a hostile place and it's slightly disturbing!

Spend more time role playing! Not just 2 mins with whoever but really get into it and make it last!

The problem is that people often don't want to roleplay when they die in the middle of a drug run for example. I revive lots of people who the moment they stand up they ask where they're money, brown bag and truck is and run off.

My point is everyone is too busy trying to make cash to roleplay things

Winning here is not measured by money, property, or kills. To me winning means securing your reputation as a character in game, or person in the community. To be known as a good roleplayer is a million times more valuable to me than being known for efficiency in killing or balance of my bank account.

People get too caught up in their quest for cash. It's ok to strive for wealth, but it should not get in the way of RP. A good roleplayer should welcome the chance of player interactions, and not shy away for fear of losing their possessions.

Each character is different, and all have their own personalities. They will react differently to situations, their demands and motives vary wildly. But they all tend to thrive on interaction with other players. Without this to bounce off, I suppose it's just daydreaming on a pc..

My advice to new players has always been the same. Get rich, as quickly as you can. Once you have £5 mil in the bank, and a small fleet of vehicles, Altis is yours! You can roam the island with whatever character you wish, you can interact with whoever you want, and you can do it with any gear, safe in the knowledge that if your RP fails to keep you alive, you really won't have lost anything you can't get right back. Having that £5 mil gives you freedom to get creative and try new things. At the end of the day, what's the worst that could happen?

Oh you cheeky little...

Yeah i had a nice reputation.

UNTIL YOU TURNED EVERY SOUL ON THIS ISLAND AGAINST ME.

WHO GETS ARRESTED FOR CARRYING PEACHES ON HIM?!

Fiftyshades of Altis? Cant wait to hear my girl being set on "fire" when hearing it!!! :D

You where correct, you caugt me with that nick, tginking; "ammagad....", but the words I read changed that quite fast.

You have a point, and thats what makes this community so bloody great! There is TONS of lads out there that want to copy what we have here, either by naming it like; "Altisroleplay.co.uk" (ARUK), or "AltisCivplay.co.uk (ACUK), or even AltisKavala.co.uk (AKUK), but there is only one, only one true ALUK!

To Be Honest, I think we should have more of a Handle over Civilian Roles, I Believe this Server had Treasury Cameras which worked well but maybe even Cameras for RP on the Streets of Kavala for more police to dispatch to locations or have an Idea on whats going on. This would for example be set for different HQ's - Athira had the Athira Streets, Pyrgos had the Pyrgos Streets and Kavala Had the Kavala Streets.
