Question about VDM'ing

Hello guys.

I was playing on ur server today, I gotta say I'm fairly new to this game mode. But I got a question that I would really like to be answered.

I drove around in Kavala, I had a bunch of apples that I needed to sell. So I wen't to the Market, I sold them, and when I came back out on the street a car drove up. judging from their gear it was clear to me that they wanted to rob me, so I jumped quickly into my car, while one the guys got out of their car. He then pointed at me with his weapon and said, "its a robbery, get out of ur vehicle or I will shoot u". My character(RP-wise) doesnt take that crap from anyone, and has always been told to defend himself, so instinctively, I ran this guy over.

So this is where the "bad" things start. Cus now I get threatened by him that he wants to report me for VDM'ing, and that I will get banned for what I just did. I'm like what the hell, the guy tried to rob me and I just defended myself, and got away... So I ask on the server if that's really the rules of the server and I get different answers, but most people say "dont VDM, its an RP server". But im like yeah... its a RP server I know.. thats why my character defended himself...

Okay long story short and here's my question, is it really a ban-able offense, to run someone over who is CLEARLY trying to rob u and on the same time THREATENING to take your life?

I understand that rules against VDM'ing is made, so that people dont just do that stuff for fun, but are they really there aswell to prevent civilians from protecting themselves against robberies?

Hello, because of the Arma engine and physics, you don't knock someone over if you hit them, you kill them instantly, so the most fair thing to be done, is having a rule about not driving over people. So yes, it is bannable, so say sorry and avoid yo do it in the future

in kavala you cannot use a vehicle to kill anyone, in the red zone you can do what you want but not in the green zone, just message the guy and say sorry and you should be fine explain that your new, you should of just drove off and got away

First of all thanks for your answers guys. I can see why the mechanics makes driving over people very efficient. But I fail to see the fairness in not being allowed to defend yourself. I mean the guy even had a chance to shoot me after he threatened me about it and I started driving.

But let me get this straight about the server rules then;

In a green zone you are allowed to shoot and rob innocent people, but you are not allowed to defend yourself if being robbed?

As I already mentioned, I understand why the rule is there, I just didn't think it would count under these kind of circumstances...

But hey, next time I'll just let him rob me or try to drive off. even tho It destroys my options and the realism as a roleplayer.

its due to the mechanics of the game, vehicles would be too over powered if they touch you its pretty much instadead where as guns you can run and dodge and make it hard to be hit, they are not allowed to shoot you in the green zone without role play, and if you have a weapon you can shoot them if they try and rob you as they have initiated the role play, its there to stop people just driving over people all the time.
