Profile pic and banner sizes

So, I'm quite the Photoshop noob but I do know some basics and how to google so I was thinking about throwing together a profile pic and banner...

Now to my question, what sizes should these be? Especially the banner since I'm very unsure (the picture is atleast a square so it's easier to figure out and scale properly).

Haven't tested it myself but it's the same dimensions that Jefke uses and his look good so Yes! it does
