Profession's Tab

Well all I want to know is what the purpose of the Profession's tab is there for, Is there any perks for having more points in certain profession or is it purely achievement ?

I'm not new to ALUK I just never saw the update notes for this tab as I was taking a break from ALUK for studies, If someone can maybe link me to the notes or just explain in your own words what it does

For things with Processing, like Weed, or Iron etc.

The more you sell of that resource, the more profession XP you gain.

When you level up that profession, processing the resource becomes quicker.

But for things that don't have processing, like frogs legs, I honestly have no idea what effect it has.

I'm not exactly sure, but is collecting pearls from clams somewhere on the professions tab? I don't remember seeing one.
