So I've just replaced my Mobo and CPU. But the power switch won't work at all, I have to short the pins in order to boot. Any ideas?

If shorting the pins works then I can only assume the cables are damaged. Got a voltmeter or something to test?

The cables were working perfectly until they were inserted into the new Mobo, unfortunately I don't have a voltmeter.

Try breadboarding the computer and see if it works then.

plugged the power cable in the wrong port or the wrong way round (it does actually matter)

please provide specs on

  • case
  • mobo
  • psu

As far as I'm aware, both power and reset buttons simply make a physical connection and orientation doesn't make a difference. Maybe I'm wrong, but I've never had an issue with it before.

ive had to wire up a seperate power supply for a power switch to work before for somebody, and on some of the funky boards for whatever reason it can make a difference, although you are quite correct it only has to bridge it normally.

Okay, after some fiddling the switch now shuts the system down but won't start on the 2nd push of the button.

Will give details in a se
